Week Three is here and the Ches-Mont League-PAC crossover games continue. Both leagues can boast about wins last week as there was no clear cut winner.   Downingtown West travels to Spring-Ford for a big road test, while Malvern Prep braces for a very tough test against Roman Catholic. Here is a look at all the Week Three action.

Owen J. Roberts (3-3) at Avon Grove (2-1), 7 p.m.
Avon Grove went on the road last week and defeated Boyertown, 28-24. The defense has been strong all season and the offense woke up last week and made some winning plays, paced by four touchdowns by Jose Sabastro. The Wildcats are unbeaten and are only allowing a little over seven points per game. They took care of Great Valley, 34-14.

Pick: Owen J. Roberts

Pope John Paul (2-1) at Bishop Shanahan (3-0), 7 p.m.
This is a rematch of the District 1 4A championship from last season that PJP won over the Eagles. The Golden Panthers have a potent passing attack led by quarterback Luke Terlesky. They also feature Villanova commit Braden Reed, son of head coach Scott Reed.

The younger Reed has 23 catches already this season after collecting 57 last campaign.
The Shanahan offense has been getting quality play from quarterback Anthony Aquila and receivers Julian Haylock and Aidan Civitella, who is also a key member of the secondary, a unit that will be tested at home.

Pick: Pope John Paul

Coatesville (2-1) at Perkiomen Valley (1-2), 7 p.m.
Coatesville has won two in a row since getting drubbed by Garnet Valley in its opener. They rolled past Sun Valley last week, 42-0. Quarterback Matt “Buggy” Ortega threw for four touchdowns. The Red Raiders can run the football and should be able to control the clock. The Vikings were held to 145 yards of total offense in a 35-13 loss to Downingtown West.

Pick: Coatesville

Boyertown (0-3) at Downingtown East (1-2), 7 p.m.
Downingtown East rallied for a vital 17-14 win over Spring-Ford last week. Running back Alex Rios carried the ball 38 times for 175 yards. The defense was in the Spring-Ford backfield most of the night harassing quarterback Matt Zoellers. Linebacker Jackson Griffiths had an excellent game against the Rams.
The Bears’ rally from a 21-6 defict to Avon Grove fell agonizingly short to keep them winless.

Pick: Downingtown East

Downingtown West (3-0) at Spring-Ford (1-2), 7 p.m.
Downingtown West is unbeaten and looked very strong in a 35-13 win over Perkiomen Valley last week. West has multiple backs that can hurt a defense. Darian Smith scored three touchdowns against PV, while Mike Taraschi gained 80 yards on 12 carries. The West defense will have to deal with Rams quarterback Matt Zollers, who ran for two long scores in a 17-14 loss to Downingtown East.

West showed they can also throw the football in the win over Perk Valley. Cole Bricker completed seven of nine passes for 107 yards and two scores. JD Weller was his main target.

Phoenixville (2-0) at Kennett (1-1), 7 p.m.

Phoenixville exploded for 48 points in a rout of West Chester Henderson last week. The Phantoms ran for 240 yards — 140 by Deacon Williams, who added three scores. Talon Romance completed all nine of his passes for 208 yards and three scores. Kennett was held in check as they dropped a 16-8 decision to Norristown.

Pick: Phoenixville
Pottsgrove (2-1) at WC East (2-1), 7 p.m.
West Chester East’s defense has pitched two shutouts in its first three games. Pottsgrove will test them with a very strong power running game that helped them to a convincing 48-14 victory over Oxford. It should be a tight one with the team who can stop the run better coming out on top.

Pick: Pottsgrove

Upper Merion (0-3) at WC Henderson (1-2) 7, p.m.
The Warriors gave up 448 yards of total offense to Phoenixville in a 48-13 loss. Upper Merion will not test the Warriors as much. The Vikings are winless in three games and were shut out, 35-0, by West Chester East. They have just one TD in the last two games. Henderson quarterback Jackson Lewis threw for 246 yard in the loss. Upper Merion should see a lot of running back Brady Collins.

Pick: WC Henderson

Norristown (3-0) at WC Rustin (3-0), 7 p.m.
Norristown, which was 1-9 last season, already has three win to its credit and has allowed only one touchdown in each of its last two games. Even though they are battling injuries, the Golden Knights should be able to move the football with their Wing-T offense and their stable of running backs. Jo Jo Magolon had a big game on defense for Rustin in its close win over Pope John Paul II last week. They are outscoring their opponents, 107-19, in three games.

Pick: WC Rustin

Upper Perkiomen (3-0) at Unionville (2-1), 7 p.m.
Upper Perk has jumped out to a 3-0 record for the first in over two decades after rolling past Sun Valley, 48-21. Zach Schwartz gained 204 yards on the ground and recorded five touchdowns. Zach Adam added 154 yards and returned a kickoff 85 yards for a score.

Look for Unionville quarterback Tommy McGinnis to have a big game. Drew Puleo and Brody McLaughlin are two of his favorite targets. The Longhorns defense has been very good in spearheading a two-game winnings streak.

Pick: Unionville
Methacton (0-3) at Great Valley (1-2), 7 p.m.

This looks like a spot the host Patriots can get a win. Methacton dropped a 35-20 decision to Bishop Shanahan to fall to 0-3. Great Valley is coming off a 34-14 loss to Owen. J. Roberts. The Patriots will look for Sam Snyder to churn out some rushing yards on the Warriors

Pick: Great Valley

Pottstown (1-2) at Oxford (1-2), 7 p.m. Both teams suffered bad losses last week, but Oxford should have more weapons than the visitors. Running back Joel McClain should have a real big game as the Hornets should be able to exploit their advantage up front on the Trojans.

Pick: Oxford

Ridley (2-1) at Conestoga (0-3), 7 p.m.
The rough start to the season continued for Conestoga last after falling 42-7 to Springfield (Delco). dropped a 42-7 decision to Springfield last week. The Pioneers gave up 267 yards on the ground. Ridley is 2-1 after being beaten 28-7 by Strath Haven. The Green Raiders are expected to have the advantage up front on the Pioneers.

Pick: Ridley

Roman Catholic (3-0) at Malvern Prep (1-1), 7 p.m.
After two weeks in New Jersey, the Friars will have their home opener. Roman Catholic has scored 164 points in its first three wins. Quarterback Semaj Beals is a major threat in the pass game. Two weeks ago, Beals threw for a Philadelphia Catholic League record 465 yards against St. John’s from DC. Malvern scored 27 points in the last seven minutes in a win over Delbarton from New Jersey last week. The Friars will be tested by Roman Catholic’s speed at almost every position.

Pick: Malvern Prep
