Quinn Whitaker and Caroline Johnston each found the back of the net as the Episcopal Academy girls soccer team pulled off a 2-1 upset over Maryland’s McDonogh School, the nation’s top-ranked team according to unitedsoccercoaches.org, late Saturday night.

In other nonleague action:

Marple Newtown 2, Pottsgrove 0 >> Rihana Ndini and Ava Bross both scored a first-half goal and keeper Nicole Semerjian made two saves for the Tigers.

Football

Episcopal Academy dropped a 10-7 decision to Lawrenceville (N.J.) in a nonleague game Saturday evening.

The Churchmen (0-2) took an early lead when quarterback Brody Garrison punched in a one-yard rushing touchdown with four seconds remaining in the first quarter.

EA held the 7-0 advantage at halftime, but Lawrenceville tied it up with a 59-yard touchdown run by Mako Grant. The hosts went in front with a 28-yard field goal with 1:25 left in regulation.

Boys Soccer

Omar Warthen Jr. produced four goals as Ridley beat Sun Valley, 5-0, in a nonleague match.

Jonathan Daniels added a goal and three assists for the Green Raiders.

Episcopal Academy 4, Germantown Friends School 0 >> Michael McGongai, Liam Naylor, David Brickman and Christian Dankanich had one goal apiece for the Churchmen.

Volleyball

Paityn Kehoe and Meredith Rinaldi combined for 21 digs to help Notre Dame cruise past Avon Grove 25-21, 25-7 and 25-20.

Audrey Began and Kayla Edginton teamed up for 17 kills and eight blocks for the Irish (4-0).

Field Hockey

Allie Decker and Sam Flemming had a goal apiece in Ridley’s 2-0 victory over Bonner & Prendergast.

Elise Martin (four saves) earned the shutout.
