The Bishop Shanahan High School doubles team of sophomore Danny Gallagher and senior Thomas Duncheskie finished fourth at the PIAA 2A boys tennis state doubles tournament May 24-25 at Hershey Racquet Club.

Gallagher and Duncheskie, the District 1 2A doubles champion, defeated Sewickley Academy’s Max Kopf and Ben Terrell, 6-2, 6-2, in the opening round; then beat Truman Peters and Aaron Andrews of Wyomissing, 5-7, 6-0, 6-2, in the state quarterfinals to advance to the final four. In the third-place match, they battled District 4 champions Will Cecchini  and Sarthak Vishwakarma of Lewisburg in three sets before falling, 4-6, 6-4, 3-6.

Duncheskie, a co-captain on the Shanahan boys’ tennis squad, will be attending University of Georgia in the fall. Gallagher has been the Eagles’ first singles player the past two seasons.

Bishop Shanahan boys’ tennis head coach Michael Owens said, “As a doubles team, Dan and Tom make a great pair. Dan is more fiery and aggressive, while Tom is not as emotional and is steady. Tom plays the net well, and Dan has a tremendous serve and ground strokes. Both are excellent student athletes, and are Honor Roll students.”

In the PIAA 3A boys tennis state doubles tournament May 24-25, also held at Hershey, the Conestoga duo of junior Rohan Rao and senior Voyan Markovic finished second.

In the first round, Rao/Markovic defeated Zach Schrader and Dylan Dunkelberger of Reading, 6-2, 6-4. In the championship finals, the Conestoga duo lost to District 3 champion (and defending PIAA 3A doubles state champion) Aidan Mahaffey and Tyler Mahaffey, 2-6, 1-6.
