The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media 2024 Boys Basketball All-Area Teams

The 2023-24 boys basketball season is in the books and it was another eventful one in The Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media area.

In the Suburban One League Central Bucks East, Cheltenham and Upper Dublin won division championships. The Patriots won the Colonial Division while the Panthers topped the Freedom Division and the Cardinals the Liberty Division. It’s Upper Dublin’s first outright league title since 2002. The Cardinals also won the SOL Tournament title and reached a district championship game for the first time since 1985.

Archbishop Wood was knocked out of the Philadelphia Catholic League playoffs in the quarterfinals, but hammered Northeast in the District 12-6A third-place game to qualify for the state playoffs. In states, the Vikings won three games to reach the semifinals.

Archbishop Carroll made a run to the PIAA-4A state championship game. The Patriots, with a team entirely composed of freshmen and sophomores, got valuable experience with four wins in the state playoffs.

Pope John Paul II and Methacton had strong seasons out of the Pioneer Athletic Conference. Both schools qualified for the state playoffs while the Golden Panthers won the District 1-4A championship.

Dock Mennonite Academy had another dominant season in the Bicentennial Athletic League. The Pioneers went back-to-back with BAL and District 1 titles. Dock won two state playoff games to reach the PIAA-2A quarterfinals.

Germantown Academy finished its season by winning the Commonwealth Cup championship.

The top players who helped their teams this winter are recognized with all-area selections.

First Team

Jalil Bethea, Archbishop Wood

Bethea averaged 22.7 points, 7.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game while earning co-MVP honors in the Philadelphia Catholic League. The senior averaged 25 points per game in Wood’s three state playoff wins to reach the PIAA-6A semifinals.

Josh Reed, Archbishop Wood

Reed was a first-team All-Philadelphia Catholic League selection after averaging 19 points, nine rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. The senior shot 61% from the field.

Jake Cummiskey, Central Bucks East

Cummiskey earned first team all-league honors for a third consecutive season in the Suburban One League Colonial Division. The senior averaged 16.5 points, five rebounds and three assists while hitting 46 three-pointers for the division champions.

Bryce Rollerson, Germantown Academy

Rollerson led the Inter-Ac in scoring with 26.6 points per game. The junior, a first team all-league selection, surpassed 1,000 career points in January.

Ryan Mulroy, Upper Dublin

Mulroy led the Cardinals to their first outright league title in 22 years. The junior averaged 15.4 points for the Suburban One League Liberty Division champions, who went on the win the SOL Tournament and reach the District 1-5A final.
