High Schools: AP, Chester sprinters, Interboro throwers earn medals at Del Val Championships

Academy Park’s male sprinters, Chester’s female runners and the Interboro throwers led the way at Wednesday’s Del Val Championships.

Three different AP runners divvied up the male sprint events, with Joshua Dean (10.71 seconds) winning the 100. Dean was second in the 400, behind Shaun Moat (49.92), who was second to Camir Jones (22.08) in the 200. The Knights took four of the top five spots in both the 100 and 200, dominating in the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays. Keyon Jones won the 300 hurdles.

Chester dominated in the girls events. Alasia Mosley won the 100-meter dash in 11.95 seconds. She was second in the 200 behind teammate JaNaisa Dearry (24.54) and with Damira Allen third. Dearry’s 55.42 won the 400 ahead of Mosley and Daleeah Alexander. Allen swept hurdles in 14.62 and 47.31.

Penn Wood’s Ricky Mason and Joshua Esteris went 1-2 in the boys 800 and 1,600. Esteris won the 3,200. The only AP sprint interruption was Kivaleon Clarke of Penn Wood, who was second in the 100 and fourth in the 200 to go with wins in the long jump and triple jump (43-5). Second in the long jump was teammate Haji Ali, who won the high jump at 6 feet. Ali was third in the 110 hurdles behind teammates Kasir Sabree (16.12) and Shamir Rogers (also the triple jump runner-up).

Interboro nearly swept the field events on both sides. Mark D’Angelo won the boys discus with a throw of 117-6. Antonio Malvestuto’s 132-1 claimed the javelin. Sarah Kerr won the girls shot put, was second to teammate Josie Dowd in the javelin and third in the discus, with Emma Kiely second.

The only exceptions were Penn Wood’s Khiron Clarke, who won the shot put in 46-8.5 and was second in the discus, and Chichester’s Refiloe Taylor, who threw 81-10 to win the discus.

Penn Wood’s Kelisa Beckett won the 800. Manteneh Sesay of Academy Park claimed the 1,600. Fatumata Kaba of AP finished second in the girls 100 and won the triple jump. Teammates Terea Wallace (long jump) and Kiala Bright (high jump) also got wins.

At the Ches-Mont Championships:

Junior Mohamed Wahdan Jr. clocked in at 40.80 seconds to finish second in the boys 300-meter hurdles at the league championships.

Madicyn Parker threw 101 feet, 5 inches to finish fourth in the girls discus. Elijah Jones was sixth in the boys discus and seventh in the javelin. Kaden Robison finished seventh in the 400-meter dash.

Girls Lacrosse

Mia Raucci scored four times as Garnet Valley outlasted Springfield, 11-9, Thursday in a possible District 1 Class 3A preview.

Sammy Wood scored a hat trick. Jenny Green and Taylor Halloran had two goals each. The game was tied at nine after three quarters.

In nonleague action:

Haverford 16, Merion Mercy 2 >> Ava Pradelli paired three goals with three assists, and Hilary Elsner had three goals and a helper as a 9-0 halftime lead was more than enough for the Fords.

Maddie Shafer, Kayla Elliott, Rylee Geary and Caroline Cassidy scored twice apiece.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Agnes Irwin 12, Notre Dame 6 >> Mairyn Dwyer tallied four goals, Elle Brady had a hat trick and Molly Chorin added three assists to her goal as the Owls rolled late Wednesday.

Riley Davis and Abby Sims scored twice apiece for the Irish.

Boys Lacrosse

Wade Devitis backed an outstanding defensive effort with four saves as Haverford pitched a shutout, 8-0, over Hatboro-Horsham.

Eamon Brennan scored three times. Nils McCallion had two goals and three assists. Kristos McKendry also scored twice.

Softball

Grace Corner went 3-or-3 with four RBIs as Marple Newtown outslugged Penncrest, 11-7, late Wednesday.

Kaylen Hushen added three hits and three runs scored. Nicole Semerjian drove home two runs.

Maura Anstotz went 3-or-3 with three runs scored for Penncrest. She, Bella Green and Sydney Reid each belted home runs. Lily Harrison-Parramore drove in two with a triple.

Baseball

John Teehan worked five solid innings, scattering three hits and scattering two earned runs, as Ridley topped Lower Merion, 4-2, Wednesday.

Danny Stickney went 3-for-3 with an RBI. Teehan and Bryant Cauthorn also drove in runs. Bobby Doherty had two hits, an RBI and a run scored. Jake Mansfield pitched two clean innings for the save.
