Roundup (May 7): Justin Fryer’s 11 strikeouts lead Norristown to upset victory over Owen J. Roberts

Norristown 6, Owen J. Roberts 1

Justin Fryer struck out 11 and allowed only three hits and one run over 6 ⅔ innings to send Norristown to a win over Liberty second-place Owen J. Roberts.

Matt Leary (2 RBI), Chase Logan and Brandon Mancini had two hits each for the Eagles (8-10), which put the game away with a three-run sixth inning.

Phoenixville 9, Pottsgrove 6

Giovanni Vito’s two-run double and Bobby Gray’s RBI single propelled Phoenixville’s three-run eighth inning and the Phantoms outlasted the Falcons in extra innings Tuesday.

Gray was 3-for-5 with three RBI and Tommy Whitesel (RBI) and Anthony Cervino (2 RBI) had two hits each for 13-hit Phoenixville (9-7).

Christian Cervino got the pitching win with three innings of one-hit relief of starter Kevin Kingsbury (5 IP, 6 H, 4 ER).

Pottsgrove (5-13), which rallied from 5-0 down to force extras, got two-hit games from Shane O’Hanlon, Carter Burg and Ricky Scott. Luke Tyson doubled and drove in three runs.

Perkiomen School 12, Lawrenceville 1

Perk improved to 18-3-1 in a five-inning victory over Lawrenceville Tuesday. Kross Howarth homered (2-for-4) and had four RBI and Henry Clausell had two doubles and two RBI.

Nate Romberger allowed three hits and a run in four innings for pitching win.

Cesar Lopez and Avery Smith had two hits each for Perk.

Softball

Upper Perkiomen 4, Pottsgrove 3

After trading three runs apiece in the fourth inning, Ashley Forrest’s RBI single to score Brooke Sullivan in the fifth provided the difference as Upper Perk edged Pottsgrove in PAC Frontier play Tuesday.

Forrest’s big hit was part of her 2-for-3, two-RBI day while Sullivan was 2-for-3. Pitcher Erin Gray went the distance, allowing zero earned runs and scattering 10 hits. She struck out nine and walked one.

Riley Eden (2 RBI) tied it at 3-3 with a two-run single in the fourth for Upper Perk (8-11).

Mikayla Eckman was 3-for-3 with an RBI. She took the loss after allowing four runs on six hits in six innings. She had nine strikeouts.

Bailey Pysher was 3-for-4 with an RBI for the Falcons (7-11).

Boys’ volleyball

Spring-Ford 3, Avon Grove 0

Spring-Ford improved to 10-9 with a sweep of Avon Grove, 25-19, 25-18, 25-15.

Ram leaders were PJ Sczerba (12 kills, 7 digs), Jake Blake (8 kills, 10 digs), Luc Nguyen (8 digs, 23 assists, 4 aces) and Zack Parker (8 kills, 2 blocks).
