High Schools: Three Episcopal Academy girls teams win Inter-Ac League titles

Sophia Santinelli delivered in extra innings Tuesday as the Episcopal Academy softball team claimed its third consecutive Inter-Ac League title.

The sophomore shortstop blasted the go-ahead, solo home run in the top of the eighth and the Churchwomen held on for a 2-1 victory over Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.

Maddie Masiko, who homered in the second inning, pitched another gem for the undefeated Churchwomen. The junior dominated with 17 strikeouts, allowing only two hits. Masiko went 3-for-3 and Santinelli finished 2-for-2 with a double.

In the Del Val League:

Interboro 18, Academy Park 0 >> The Bucs (14-3, 8-0) kept the good times rolling, winning their 11th in a row.

Freshman Teagan Ladigoski earned her first varsity win, striking out all nine hitters she faced. Ladigoski also notched her first varsity hit when she cranked a three-run homer.

Interboro’s Nagle sisters, Emma and Mare, each belted two-run homers. Mare finished with four RBIs.

In the Central League:

Springfield 6, Harriton 1 >> Sisters Ryleigh and Kayla Frye both homered to lead the Cougars over the Rams. Ryleigh Frye, Nikki Morrison (double) and winning pitcher Payton Feeney all finished 2-for-3.

Sydney Goldstein hit a solo homer for the Rams.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 9, Archbishop Wood 7 >> O’Hara ace Hayden Sissons hurled a complete game with 12 punchouts and went 2-for-3 with a double and four ribbies. Hayden Reale added a triple and two RBIs for the Lions (8-4).

Archbishop Ryan 7, Bonner & Prendergast 3 >> Grace Edwards had two singles and Mia Lamberto tripled and scored two runs for the Pandas (6-6).

In the Ches-Mont League:

Coatesville 14, Sun Valley 4 >> McKenna Ogurko powered the Vanguards with a three-run homer, but it wasn’t enough. Jordyn Skarren and Layla Murphy supplied two hits apiece.

Boys Lacrosse

Pat Flaherty posted three goals and two assists in Springfield’s 8-2 win over Marple Newtown in a battle of Central League powers.

Brad Barber scored twice and Luke Valerio had a goal and an assist for the Cougars. Goalie Jackson Kennedy stopped 11 shots.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Haverford 10, Upper Darby 1 >> Kristos McKendry registered a hat trick and Chase Bickell had two goals to pace the Fords. Nate Sparrow accounted for the only goal for the Royals.

Garnet Valley 17, Harriton 4 >> Luke Mingioni paced the Jags with five goals and one assist. Andrew Goldt (four assists), Kai Lopez, Parker Williams and Evan Wilkens all finished with two goals.

Lopez notched his 100th career point and went 18-for-21 on faceoffs.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Springside Chestnut Hill Academy 7, Episcopal Academy 6 >> Jake Manion netted three goals and goalie Jack Guido made 10 saves for the Churchmen in a losing effort..

Girls Lacrosse

Episcopal Academy captured the Inter-Ac League title with a 17-3 triumph over Springside Chestnut Hill Academy.

Quinn Whitaker led the Churchwomen with four goals. Avery Le and Kate Dente tallied three times apiece, while Sydney Richter (four assists), Sof Gagliardi and Teagan Cook all had two goals.

In the Del Val League:

Chichester 12, Academy Park 4 >> The Eagles wrapped up a perfect 8-0 season in the Del Val and their first league championship since 2017.

Natalia Willoughby scored a game-high four goals for Chi.

In the Central League:

Springfield 12, Marple Newtown 8 >> Maddie Kane scored three goals and Jaclyn Guille paired two goals with three assists for the Cougars, who trailed 6-4 at halftime. Devin Buggy (one assist), Claire Lynch and Kylee O’Donnell all had two goals. Allie Hunter pitched in with a goal and four assists. Goalie Geena Augello made seven saves.

Haverford 18, Upper Darby 3 >> Hilary Elsner accumulated four goals, two assists, 10 draw controls and four ground balls for the Fords. Kaya Elliot and Ava Pradelli each scored a pair of goals.

Garnet Valley 17, Harriton 6 >> Mia Raucci and Carlu DiCandilo each recorded a hat trick to lead the Jaguars past the Rams.

Sammy Wood added two goals and Jenny Green paired a goal with two assists for GV. Harriton’s Sadye Timmons scored her 100th career goal.

In nonleague action:

Notre Dame 19, Cardinal O’Hara 3 >> Maeve Seeger racked up three goals and seven draw controls for the Irish Monday. Kendall Moore, Eloise Murphy and Cate Fox all netted a pair of goals.

Baseball

Sam Dixon had a big day at the plate in Delco Christian’s 18-0 victory over Renaissance Academy.

The junior Dixon smashed a grand slam and two doubles to go with five RBIs, three runs scored and three stolen bases for the Knights. Reid Darnall supplied three hits, including a triple, and Beau Lyren was the winning pitcher.

In the Catholic League

Bonner & Prendergast 4, Roman Catholic 2 >> Johnny Ortegae tossed a one-hit complete game, striking out 11. Austin Cannon (two runs) and Harry Carr (one RBI) fueled the Friars’ bats with two hits apiece. Irv Fisher contributed an RBI double.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Germantown Academy 4, Haverford School 1 >> Ian White worked around five walks to give the Fords five innings of two-hit ball. He struck out nine and allowed four runs (one earned).

Jaidyn Rivera collected two hits and scored the Fords’ lone run when Zac Fuscaldo drove him in with a first-inning single.

Girls Golf

It was a banner day for Episcopal Academy at the Inter-Ac League Championships.

Clarissa Leung won the individual championship with a round of 32 (3-under par) and the Churchwomen also captured the team title. Leung eagled the ninth hole.

Kiersten Bodge of Notre Dame placed second with a 37. EA’s Addie Chang claimed third place with a score of 38.

Boys Tennis

Episcopal Academy shut out Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, 7-0, in Inter-Ac League play.

David Ding rallied from a set down to defeat Jayson Blum at second singles 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. No. 1 Connor Chambers won 6-1, 6-2 and No. 3 Noah Ganzhorn triumphed 6-1, 6-0.

EA’s first doubles pairing of Gavin Schmidt and Sam Graham grinded out a 3-6, 6-3, 10-4 victory. No. 2 Hunter Stetson and Daniel Adibi, No. 3 William Gobran and Alan Zhou, and No. 3 Aaron Tang and Bennett Newman all won in straight sets.
