Roundup (May 6): Boyertown softball boosts PAC playoff prospects with 11-2 win over Methacton

Boyertown 11, Methacton 2

Boyertown scored three times in the second inning and plated another five in the third to run away with a PAC Liberty win against Methacton that improved the Bears’ PAC playoff chances.

Jenna Fox and Lindsay Mathias each had two hits and three RBI for the Bears (7-3, 11-4, 13-5). Ella Hurter, Kyra Neiswender and Rielynn Carey all knocked in runs in the victory, with Hurter also firing seven strong innings to pick up the win in the pitching circle. She struck out nine and walked three, allowing only three hits and one earned run.

Jillian McTamney tripled and scored a run for Methacton (5-5, 10-5, 10-7), and Madison Krupiewski knocked in the lone Warriors run.

Methacton pitchers issued 12 free passes in the loss.

Pope John Paul II 4, Upper Perkiomen 3

Rylee Derecola’s walk-off single in the bottom of the seventh lifted Pope John Paul II to a thrilling PAC Frontier victory on Monday.

Charlie Hallman knocked in a pair of runs for the Golden Panthers, with Molly Houchins chipping in an RBI single as well. Abby Simmers and Sophia Benincasa had two hits and two runs each.

Lexi DiBricida picked up the complete game win, allowing three runs on 10 hits with three walks and four strikeouts.

Brooke Sullivan tripled and knocked in a pair of runs for the Indians, with Ashley Forrest also plating a run. Ryan Berg was 3-for-3 with a stolen base and run scored in the loss.

Erin Gray let up four runs on eight hits in 6.1 innings, striking out two and walking two.

Pottsgrove 9, Phoenixville 5

Avery Gleason went 3-for-3 with a double, three RBI and two runs scored to help lead Pottsgrove to a PAC Frontier win over Phoenixville.

Hayden Pysher hit a two-run double for the Falcons, and Mikayla Eckman, Elizabeth Phillips and Taydem Kelly also plated runs in the win.

Eckman went the distance in the pitching circle to pick up the win, yielding 11 hits and four earned runs while striking out six and walking one.

Katie Clarke was 2-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored for the Phantoms, with Hayden Perrone, Olivia Jacketti and Abby Boylan knocking in runs as well.

Clarke took the loss in the circle, surrendering five hits and eight earned runs. She struck out six and walked three.

Spring-Ford 10, Norristown 0 (Game 1)

Spring-Ford swept a doubleheader at Norristown by identical five-inning, 10-0 scores, and clinched the top seed for the PAC playoffs in the process.

In Game 1, Jess Fliszar struck out 12 in five scoreless innings, allowing only two hits and one walk. Fliszar also went 2-for-4 with two RBI from the cleanup spot, with Samantha Lycosky also chipping in two hits and two RBI.

Kayla Naylor and Ava Bainbridge each contributed two hits and an RBI for the Rams.

Later on in Game 2, Katie Cecconi retired all 15 batters she faced in five perfect innings, striking out five. Jordyn Jacobe had two hits and two RBI for the Rams, with six other players in the Spring-Ford lineup knocking in one run apiece.

Perkiomen School 16, Solebury School 0

Perkiomen scored in all five innings the team came to the plate, with Cam McQuade headlining the team’s all-around offensive effort with a home run, two RBi and three runs scored.

Kelsey McMillan knocked in four, and Ava Darvassy was 3-for-4 with two RBI. Kenna Tobin, Emily Lessard, Hannah Schneider, Gabrielle Samy and Taylor Decker also knocked in runs for the Panthers.

Claudia Knowles allowed just one hit in five innings, striking out 11 and walking none.

Baseball

Upper Perkiomen 5, Pope John Paul II 3

Braden Rieg came up big on the mound for Upper Perkiomen, allowing one earned run and five hits while striking out five and walking two. Kyle Mazzie recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.

Mazzie, Jordin Dice and Evan Sands all knocked in runs for the Indians, while Owen Williams tripled and scored a run. Upper Perk scored the decisive two runs in the home fifth to break a 3-3 tie.

Luke Terlesky homered for the Golden Panthers, and Luca Dimaio had two hits and scored a run.

Owen J. Roberts 4, Perkiomen Valley 0

Tyler Brashear fired six scoreless innings to pick up the PAC Liberty win for OJR, striking out nine and walking five.

Gavin Cinkowski and Lucas Campbell teamed up to record the final three outs, striking out the side in the process.

Jackson Waters knocked in two runs for the Wildcats, with Sam Taylor and Kyle O’Connor also chipping in RBIs. Campbell was 3-for-3 with a double.

Braden Tighe and Matthew Poruban had Perk Valley’s only two hits.

Conner Fitzpatrick drew the start for the Vikings and pitched the first 4.2 innings, picking up the loss after yielding four runs and eight hits.

Methacton 7, Boyertown 1

Evan Jones fired a complete game one-hitter for the Warriors in a PAC Liberty win, striking out seven and walking two while surrendering only one unearned run.

Tommy Kratz and Ayden Fitch each went 3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI for Methacton. Ben Clark knocked in a pair, and Bryce Lohsen was 2-for-3 with an RBI and run scored.

Gavin Trainer had the only hit and scored the only run for Boyertown.

Louis Panunzio took the loss after starting for Boyertown and lasting 4.1 innings. He allowed five hits and one earned run, striking out four and walking one.
