Roundup (May 4): Upper Merion’s Besz, OJR’s Dellapenna lead the way in dominant boys’ lax victories

Upper Merion 14, Holy Ghost Prep 3

Upper Merion raced out to an 11-0 halftime lead, setting the table for a dominant effort in a non-league win over Holy Ghost Prep.

Justin Besz led the offensive attack with five goals and an assist, while Collin McCormick posted a hat trick plus an assist of his own for the Vikings.

Aidan McDonnell had two goals and two assists, and Noah Canale also produced a multi-goal effort with two scores.

Kevin Roseland contributed a goal and three assists, and Ryan Becker had a goal and an assist while winning all 19 of his face off attempts.

Nathan Uhl made 12 saves in goal for Upper Merion.

Owen J. Roberts 15, Crestwood 4

Gabe Dellapenna posted a game-high seven goals along with two assists as OJR cruised in a non-league matchup with Crestwood.

Owen Clefisch had four scores of his own, and Danny Walker recorded a multi-goal game with two. Brody Calle scored once while adding three assists, with Justin Daubert posting a goal, two assists and a 13-for-23 mark in the face-off circle.

Blake Walther chipped in two assists, and Chad Young made six saves in the cage.

Baseball

Hill School 6, Lawrenceville School 5

Hill School scored four runs in the bottom of the first inning and later warded off a late Lawrenceville rally to hold on for a 6-5 triumph.

Derek Boyd-Volz was 1-for-1 with a triple, three RBI and two runs scored, and Chase McCusker knocked in a pair of runs for the Blues.

Anthony Grosso got the start for Hill, yielding 10 hits and five runs with five strikeouts in six innings of work. Robert Pavlek struck out the side in the seventh to pick up the save.

Perkiomen School 10, Penn Charter 0

Henry Clausell belted a three-run home run in the top of the first inning to get Perkiomen off and running, with the Panthers belting out 12 hits in a five-inning win over Penn Charter. Clausell later added a two-run double and finished the day 2-for-3 with five RBI and two runs scored.

Erick Diaz added a two-run single for Perkiomen, and Sammy Laux later finished the scoring with an RBI single in the top of the fourth.

Kross Howarth threw a two-hit shutout, striking out six in his five innings of work.

The Panthers improved to 13-3 on the season.
