Pope John Paul II 2, Spring-Ford 1
Abigail Millhouse’s RBI single in the top of the sixth inning proved to be the difference maker for PJP in a huge victory for the Golden Panthers.
Lexi DiBricida tossed a complete game gem, limiting Spring-Ford’s potent lineup to five hits and an unearned run in seven innings, striking out two in a 77-pitch effort.
Molly Houchins had a huge day at the plate for PJP, going 3-for-3 with an RBI double, three stolen bases and a run scored. Abby Simmers went 2-for-4 with a run and two steals.
Katie Cecconi pitched a strong game in the loss for Spring-Ford, yielding six hits and two earned runs in seven innings. Kayla Naylor had two of the Rams’ five hits.
Methacton 13, Pottstown 2
Kyla Soulen (3 RBI) and Reagan O’Donnell (2 RBI) had two hits apiece to lead 11-hit Methacton past Pottstown in a five-inning PAC cross-division game Wednesday.
Courtney Freese (triple, 3 RBI) threw two shutout innings before making way for Sadie Fitch, who allowed two runs and two hits in three innings for the Warriors (11-5).
Savannah Richards delivered Pottstown’s highlight with a two-run home run in the fourth inning.
Upper Perkiomen 14, Norristown 4
Ashley Forrest was 3-for-3 with three RBI and Ryan Berg had two hits and two RBI to lead Upper Perk to a five-inning win over Norristown (3-11) in a PAC cross-division game
Brooke Sullivan (RBI) and Riley Eden each had two hits and an RBI while Erin Gray got the pitching win for UP (6-10), allowing five hits and one earned run over five innings with seven strikeouts. Up 8-0, the Tribe broke it open in a six-run fourth inning.
Alana Echevarria shined for the Eagles with a double, two hits and two RBI while Camryn Holmes had a two-run single in Norristown’s four-run fifth inning.
Owen J. Roberts 15, Pottsgrove 9
Grace Przborowski was 3-for-4 with two RBI and was the winning pitcher and five Wildcat players had multi-hit games as OJR out-slugged Pottsgrove Wednesday.
Liza Flavin, Amelia Atkins, Bella Winnick and Sophia Cerimele had two hits each for OJR (6-11), which used a 10-run first inning to carry it to the win.
The Falcons’ 14-hit attack saw big days from Mikayla Eckman (3 doubles, 3 RBI), Avery Gleason (double, 2-for-4, RBI), Elizabeth McAllister (3-for-4, RBI) and Delaney RIce (2-for-4, RBI).
Baseball
Phoenixville 4, Perkiomen Valley 1
Christian Cervino scattered six hits over six innings, allowing just one run, to carry Phoenixville past Perk Valley in a PAC crossover game Wednesday.
Cervino struck out two and walked two before making way for Sam Marsh to work a hitless seventh, striking out two. Marsh also had a double and RBI.
Ryan Jacobson (double, RBI) swung a big bat for the Phantoms (8-6) going 3-for-4.
For PV, Collin Hughes was 2-for-3, Jack Tarloski had a hit and RBI while Jonathan Boyd took the loss, allowing three runs in four innings of relief.
Upper Perkiomen 4, Norristown 2
Jordin Dice led off the eighth with a single – one of just two Upper Perk hits – and scored the eventual game-deciding run on a Brody Weiss groundout and Upper Perk tacked on another for an extra-inning win over Norristown (7-9) Wednesday.
Norristown forced extras with a run in the bottom of the seventh on Andrew Mocarsky’s sacrifice fly to score Brett Murphy (double). Matt Leary added a double and RBI.
Eagles starter Justin Fryer surrendered just one hit and one earned run in 6.2 innings with 10 strikeouts but did not figure in the decision. For Upper Perk (10-7), Braden Rieg got the win in relief (3.1 IP, 2H, 1ER, 0 BB, 3 K) in support of starter Cole Pierce (4.2 IP, 4H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 2 K).
Boyertown 5, Upper Merion 0
Louis Panunzio fired a complete game three-hit shutout and was supported by a four-run second inning as Boyertown beat Upper Merion Wednesday.
Panunzio (2-1) needed just 73 pitches in an outing where he struck out five and walked two.
Jaydon Wiszumerski was 3-for-3 with an RBI and Randy Wynings drove in a run for Boyertown (7-5 PAC, 7-9).
Upper Merion’s Tristan Fanning took the loss after lasting 1 ⅔ innings (4 ER). Quinton Sarne was solid in relief, going 5 ⅓ innings and allowing one run and striking out seven.
Methacton 19, Pottstown 0
The Warriors scored nine in the first and 10 in the second inning in a three-inning blowout of Pottstown Wednesday.
Tripp Shytle led the offense with a triple, three hits and four RBI and Kasey Humes added two hits and three RBI for Methacton, which moved to 13-3. Austin Frank drove in three runs and Anthony Daddazio was 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Three Methacton pitchers handled an inning each with James DeHaven and Casey Behan striking out two in their hitless frames.
Pottstown’s hits came from Austin Derstine and Gina Fleming.
Owen J. Roberts 1, Pottsgrove 0
Tyler Brashear and Lucas Campbell combined on a six-hit shutout and Lucas Zachesky’s squeeze bunt scored Shane O’Connor for the winning run in the eighth inning of a low-scoring PAC crossover game Wednesday.
Brashear (7K, 2 BB) and Campbell (4K, 3BB) each allowed three hits and no runs in four innings pitched. Their effort spoiled the great outing of Pottsgrove’s Carter Burg, who gave up only five hits and a run in 7.0 innings. He struck out six and walked none.
Ricky Scott’s two doubles were the highlight for Pottsgrove’s bats.
The Falcons left 12 runners on base versus three for OJR.
Hill School 10, Blair Academy 0
Collin Mattis twirled five shutout innings, allowing only two hits to go along with three strikeouts in a five-inning victory for Hill.
Liam Sheward had a strong day both at the plate and on the bases, finishing 3-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored.
Perkiomen School 1, Shipley 0
Cesar Lopez’s solo home run in the bottom of the first was the only scoring the game would offer as Perk came away with a narrow home win Wednesday.
Henry Clausell followed up his one-hitter against Germantown on Friday with an excellent two-hitter on 72 pitches.
Girls Lacrosse
Owen J. Roberts 11, Perkiomen Valley 7
Leah Pfeiffer and Holli Nuss led the way in a losing effort for Perkiomen Valley with three goals and one assist each.
Grace Schaffner also scored for the Vikings, who got 12 saves in the cage from Charlotte Foster.
Upper Merion 16, Pottsgrove 2
Olivia Smith scored three goals and racked up another 10 assists, while Sam Walmsley had four goals and five assists of her own as Upper Merion routed Pottsgrove in a PAC Frontier showdown.
Elisa Doughery added two goals for the Vikings.
Single-goal scorers for Upper Merion were Mackenzie Davis, Jess Reinhardt, Sydney Reed, Maura Besz, Chelsea Smith, Addie Eaton and Grace Solley.
Anaya Onwubuariri made four saves in goal.
Emily Sorg had both Pottsgrove goals, and Maddie Miller made four saves of her own in the losing effort.
Spring-Ford 15, Methacton 6
Gianna DiBattista (5G) and Megan Ruckman (4G, 1A) combined for nine scores and Spring-Ford surged past Methacton in PAC Liberty play Wednesday.
Other top Ram contributors were Hailey Mozi (2G,1A), Riley Czapor (2G), Bella Azzara (3 caused turnovers) and goalie Ilyana Jones with 14 saves.
