Roundup (April 27): Spring-Ford boys claim victory in 4×400 Suburban A relay at 28th Penn Relays

Penn Relays – Boys’ Track

Spring-Ford’s Belal Abdelrahman, Mason Scott, Jack Stanick and Chris Brittingham were victorious in the High School Boys’ 4×400 Suburban A race at the 128th Penn Relays on Saturday morning. The quartet completed the event in 3:18.66, qualifying as the top seed — but ultimately opting not to race —  the 4×400 Philadelphia Area Championship Final on Saturday evening, good for a 15th-place finish overall.

Six other Pioneer Athletic Conference boys relay teams competed in the 4×400 Suburban A race:

Perkiomen Valley, third place – Xavier Nunez, Cooper Hey, Robbie Sturgis, Markell Davis, 3:31.41

Pottsgrove, fifth place – Aajeirh Trammell, Jordan Raudenbush, DJ Thaxton, Jason Peters, 3:33.68

Methacton, sixth place – Warren Simard, Wesley Conover, Joseph Layos, Yasser Jarhale), 3:34.61

Upper Merion, seventh place – Daniel Helfand, Ray Mayo, Dante Churchville, Nicolas Albini), 3:39.56

Pope John Paul II, ninth place – James Dauphinee, Michael Zollers, Ivan Morales, Mark Heffner), 3:42.12

Phoenixville, 10th place – Ryan Pratte, Colton Kleppe, John Hamid, Ben Eichenwald), 3:44.72

Additionally, in the High School Boys’ Prep School 4×400 event, the Hill School relay team consisting of Nick Bressi, Jaheim Pratt, Trevon Foster and Price Savage nabbed an 11th-place finish, running the race in 3:35.35.

Baseball

Owen J. Roberts 4, Boyertown 3

Owen J. Roberts beat Boyertown for the second time in as many days to win their 10th consecutive game on Saturday morning.

Sam Taylor hit a two run-home run for the Wildcats and also pitched two strong innings in relief to earn the win. Taylor yielded just two hits and an unearned run in relief of Dominic Billetta, who gave up six hits and two runs over the first three innings. Gavin Cinkowski pitched a spotless final two innings to earn the save for OJR, striking out three Boyertown batters.

Nick Remo went 2-for-3 with an RBI, stolen base and two runs scored for the Wildcats.

Randy Wynings had two hits and an RBI for Boyertown, and Connor Moyer was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Moyer also pitched 1.2 scoreless innings in relief.

Boyertown starter Luke Hagan pitched the first 5.1 innings, allowing nine hits and three earned runs while picking up the loss.

Pope John Paul II 11, Archbishop Carroll 3

PJP jumped out to a 5-2 lead through three innings then blew the non-league game open with a five-spot in the top of the fourth.

TJ Boccella went 4-for-4 with two RBI, while Chase Frantz and Luke Terlesky each had two hits and two RBI for the Golden Panthers. AJ Diaddezio had two hits, stole two bases and scored three runs.

Carson Glose drew the start for PJP, yielding two runs on four hits with three strikeouts in three innings to pick up the win. Ryan Long, Patrick McNerney and Mike Rullo combined to pitch the final four innings in relief, allowing just one run on three hits, striking out four.

PJP improved to 12-2 overall on the season.

Boys Lacrosse

Spring-Ford 14, Easton 11

Gavin Roth (assist) and Ian Evans (two assists) each recorded hat tricks for the Rams, who used a six-goal second quarter to create some scoreboard separation in a non-league triumph.

Brady Welsh (two assists) and Preston Page (three assists) both scored twice in the win. Other Spring-Ford goal scorers were Nick Valerio, Mike Bendowski, Sean Hassis and Haydan Wedemeyer (two assists).

Hassis won 24 of 28 face-offs, and Dylan Cyr made 14 saves in the cage.

Central Bucks West 11, Upper Merion 7

Kyle Roseland produced a strong performance with four goals and an assist, but Upper Merion fell to CB West in a non-league showdown.

Collin McCormick scored twice for the Vikings, who also got a goal and an assist from Justin Besz.

Nathan Uhl posted 13 saves in goal.

Souderton 10, Perkiomen Valley 9

Perk Valley led 5-3 at halftime and dominated much of the game, but missed opportunities and self-inflicted wounds doomed the Vikings in a non-league tilt against Souderton.

Bryce Coletta led PV with four goals, and Luke Hanlon added three.

Connor Macklin and Patrick Lamirande each tallied a goal and an assist, while Jackson Baker and Patrick Moloney each had two assists.

Tyler Henn caused five turnovers to lead the defensive effort. Christian Jones came up with six saves in goal.
