DLN local roundup: Conestoga girls, boys lacrosse teams defeat Lower Merion

The Conestoga High School girls lacrosse team defeated Lower Merion, 14-4, Thursday. The Pioneers (10-2) were led by Kiki Liebezeit (four goals, three ground balls, one caused turnover), Chloe Brown (two goals, one assist), Ellie Wisch (two goals, five draw controls), Isa Thompson (one goal, four ground balls, one caused turnover) and Alex Lepore (five saves).

The Conestoga boys lacrosse team edged Lower Merion, 3-2. The Pioneers got two goals from Adrien Grove, one goal from Clif Hawkins and nine saves from James McGrath.

Boys’ Tennis

Ches-Mont National Doubles >> Four doubles teams advanced to the semifinals of the Ches-Mont National Division doubles tourney Thursday. Downingtown East’s Shrihan Madam and Vishruth Madam won both of their matches in straight sets to advance to the semifinals against Downingtown West’s Cash Bailey and Justin Brown. West Chester Henderson’s Patrick Sinnott and Zach Evans won both of their matches in straight sets to advance to the semifinals against Downingtown West’s Leo Shi and Jack Sheldon.

Downingtown West 4, North Penn 3 >> In this Wednesday match, the Whippets swept the four doubles matches — Justin Brown/Alexander Sheldon (first doubles), Nolan Stocker/Akshit Arunachalam (second), Mehul Rogy/Gavin Gasser (third) and Ojas Mishra/Siddharth Gupta (fourth).

Baseball

Westtown School 3, Delaware County Christian 1 >> For Westtown (7-3 overall, 4-3 FSL), winning pitcher Jackson Young allowed only two hits and one earned run in 5 2/3 innings, striking out 10 batter. Leading the offense for Westtown was Brey Hossack (double, run scored), Young (1-for-2, one run scored, one RBI) and Aiden Eager (1-for-2, one RBI).

Boys’ Lacrosse

Bishop Shanahan 15, Coatesville 4 >> The Eagles were led by Joe Devine (two goals, two assists), Nate Kennedy (one goal, three assists), Nate Bracken (one goal, five ground balls), Ryan Weber (three goals), Sam O’Donnell (one goal, six ground balls), Mack Manley (three goals), Colin Gaffney (one goal, one assist, 100th career point), Dom Napoli (11 saves) and Bryan Venini  (won 10 of 17 faceoffs, seven ground balls).

West Chester Rustin 8, Kennett 6 >> For the Blue Demons, Bo Freebery had a hat trick, Ian Guyer caused four opposition turnovers and collected 10 ground balls and goalie Dave Cerezales recorded 14 saves.

Girls’ Lacrosse

Kennett 10, West Chester Rustin 8 >> The Blue Demons were led by Jaylee Killgore (four goals), Marissa Herring (two goals, five draw controls), Maeve Wells (two goals), Quinn Simmons (one goal, three assists, three draw controls), Rylie McQuiston (two assists, two caused turnovers) and Mary Carroll (five draw controls).

Bishop Shanahan 12, Coatesville 6 >> The Eagles were led by Stella D’Ambro (three goals, four draw controls, two caused turnovers), Gillian Greco (two goals, two assists, three draw controls), Elise Pezone (two goals) and Fiona Duncheskie (three goals, four draw controls, three ground balls).

Men’s Tennis

Immaculata 5, Eastern 4 >> In this Wednesday matchup, the Mighty Macs honored their three seniors (Jason Watts, Bishop Shanahan alum Jeremy Brown and Alex Polidoro) before the match. Winners for Immaculata were Tory Watts and Jason Watts at first doubles, Brown and Nicholas Fleming at second doubles, Jason Watts at first singles, Fleming at third singles, and Nicholas Brown at fifth singles.
