Track and Field: Dearry, Chester clean up at first Rap Curry Invitational

The inaugural Rap Curry Invitational was a fun time for JaNasia Dearry.

The Chester sprinter won the 200 meters and 400 meters and watched the Clippers capture a pair of relay titles at the first event hosted by Penn Wood in honor of the late athletic director.

Dearry went 24.28 to win the 200 and 55.68 in securing the 400. Alasia Mosley was third in the 100 and fourth in the 200. Chester won the 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 relays.

Academy Park’s Kiala Bright cleared 5-3 to win the high jump. She was fourth in the long jump. Teammate Fatumata Kaba won the triple jump in 35-2.

On the boys side, Ridley won a pair of relays, in the 4 x 400 (over O’Hara) and 4 x 800 (over Penncrest). Jayden Brown finished second in the triple jump and third in the long jump. Joey Lanci won the 1,600 with teammate Nick Gdowik third.

AP’s Joshua Dean captured the 100-meter dash in 10.67. Gabriel Cuffey of Archbishop Carroll was first in the 800 in 1:54.66. George Bostick won the 300-meter hurdles for Penncrest.

O’Hara’s Logan Maloney was the runner-up in the 200, as was AP’s Shaun Moat in the 400. Danny Shickel of O’Hara was third in the 110 hurdles and fourth in the 300.

In the field, O’Hara’s Pearse McGuinn leapt 6-4 to win the high jump. Sarthak Khandelwal of Penncrest was second in the pole vault. The hosts’ best results were a pair of bronze medals by Kivaleon Clarke in the triple jump and Khiron Clarke in the shot put.

At the R. Joseph Kellerman Invitational:

Eli Engleman had himself a day, winning the 800 meters and 1,600 meters for Episcopal Academy at Friday’s event hosted by Great Valley.

Engelman went 1:55.45 in the 800, edging Radnor’s Joseph Garcio. His time was 4:14.60 in the 1,600 in a 1-2 result with teammate Dawson French.

It was a big day for the Churchmen. Abaas Hunter won the 100-meter dash in 10.97 and was third in the 200. Joachim Johnson won the triple jump in 45-1 and took third in the high jump. Alphonso Koukou finished second in the shot put, ahead of mate Calvin Szoradi.

Daniel McLaughlin showed his versatility for Strath Haven. He won the 300 hurdles in 42.50 in a 1-2 with Van Wendell, then was fourth in the 110 hurdles and fifth in the long jump.

AJ Glavicic won the 400 meters in 48.52 for the Panthers. Matt Lund’s 10:04.91 claimed the 3,200 meters. Gavin Schmidt won the discus with a toss of 176 feet, and Enoch Liu’s 153-5 took the javelin crown.

Radnor’s Noah Wampole was second in the high jump and third in the long jump. Teammate Owen Lim was second in 110 hurdles and fourth in the triple jump.

On the girls side, Saige Forbes and Avery Elliott might as well have had their own mini-meet. Forbes won the 400 in 58.42 and was second in the 200. Elliott won both hurdles events, 14.95 in the 100 and 45.98 in the 300. They met in the long jump, Forbes winning in 19-4 to Elliott’s runner-up 18-8.

Stevie Combs was fourth in the girls 100 and fifth in the 200 for EA. Kendra Williamson was the 1,600 runner-up.

Penncrest picked up a slew of medals, led by Kamryn Ohm clearing 12-3 to win the pole vault. Teammate Lauren Toy was third. Ohm was fifth in the 100. Olivia Clark and Zoe Clark were third and fourth, respectively, in the 200.

Temperance England tossed 113-6 to win the discus by a single inch. Justine Rimple of Marple Newtown cleared 5-3 to claim the high jump.

Strath Haven’s Samantha Czaplicki was fourth in the 100 hurdles, fourth in the long jump and fifth in the triple jump. Josephine Ochwat threw 33-9.5 to win the shot put over Ridley’s Afriyie Owusu-Tuum. The Penncrest senior was also third in the discus and fourth in the javelin.

At the Bob Friday Warrior Invitational:

Olivia Cieslak showed her speed by finishing second in the 200 meters and winning the 400 on Friday at West Chester Henderson. Cieslak went 26.21 in the 200 and 55.97 in the 400.

Jaelyn Galloway picked up the other Delco win, the Haverford sprinter clocking in at 22.50 in the boys 200. He was second in the 400. Teammate Carlo Buonviri was third in the 3,200, and Teddy Foster finished fourth in the 1,600. Colin Corkery (third in the shot put, fifth in the discus) was among four Haverford field medals. Alyssa Bloxton (800) and Camryn McGeehan (1,600) added fourth-place results.

Jack Kalish of Garnet Valley was second in both boys hurdles events. Upper Darby’s Gabriel Tsayo finished second in the triple jump.
