DLN local roundup: Kennett’s Freebery scores 200th career point

The Kennett High School boys’ lacrosse squad defeated Coatesville, 10-6, Tuesday, and the Blue Demons’ Bo Freebery (four goals, four assists) scored his 200th career point.

Other Kennett contributors included Colin Kelly (two goals, won 15 of 19 faceoffs) Jackie Good (two goals, one assist), Cayden Killgore (two goals, one assist) and Dave Cerezales (eight saves).

West Chester Rustin 12, West Chester East 6 >> Standouts for the Golden Knights included Jackson Lamb (five goals, three assists), Drew Gaffney (won 14 of 21 faceoffs) and Will Brockett (13 saves). Jack O’Hora, Nate Pechin and Gavin Seaman each scored two goals for Rustin.

Bishop Shanahan 17, Sun Valley 3 >> The Eagles were led by Nate Kennedy (four goals), Mack Manley (two goals, four assists), Anthony Boffa (two goals, one assist) and Sam O’Donnell (eight ground balls). Luke Nicolas, Colin Gaffney and Christian Touey also scored two goals each for Shanahan.

 

Girls’ lacrosse

Conestoga 9, Marple Newtown 5 >> For the Pioneers (3-2), key contributors included Keating Hopkins (three goals), Kiki Liebezeit (two goals, two caused turnovers), Chloe Brown (four draw controls, three caused turnovers, three ground balls, one goal), Ellie Wisch (four draw controls, two ground balls, one goal) and goalie Alex Lepore (five saves).

Bishop Shanahan 16, Sun Valley 2 >> The Eagles were led by Ava Mullen (three goals), Stella D’Ambro (seven draw controls, two caused turnovers, one goal), Gillian Greco (two goals, two caused turnovers) and Fionna Duncheskie (four draw controls, two goals).

Downingtown East 12, Avon Grove 11 >> The Cougars were led by Jayne Michaels (three goals, four assists), Sofia Fanelli (six assists, two goals), Riley Marks (six draw controls, one goal), Lexie Conte (two goals), Ally Flynn (two goals) and Karyn Michaels (two goals). For Avon Grove, Sydney Correll scored five goals and Rylee Boyd scored three goals and won eight draw controls.

 

College lacrosse

Mighty Macs’ Murray feted >> Immaculata University senior midfielder Jacki Murray, a Villa Maria Academy alum, was named Atlantic East Conference Women’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. Murray had seven goals, two assists, nine points, six ground balls, one caused turnover, and set an Immaculata single-game program record with 19 draw controls in the Mighty Macs 24-16 win over Lycoming College on March 27.

 

College baseball

Immaculata’s Wright named player of week >> Immaculata senior first baseman Joey Wright was named Atlantic East Conference Baseball Player of the Week, it was announced on Tuesday. Wright was a combined 10-for-18 (.556) with eight runs scored, two doubles, a home run, and 12 RBIs over four games. He was 3-for-5 with three runs scored, a double, and four RBIs vs Marywood on March 25. He was 2-for-6 with two runs scored, a home run, and six RBIs vs Stockton on March 26. He was 3-for-3 with a run scored, a double, and two RBIs vs Centenary in game one of their doubleheader March 28 and was 2-for-4 with two runs scored in game two.

 

College softball

Mighty Mac pitcher honored >> Immaculata University freshman pitcher Nadia Bhuiyan was named to the Atlantic East Conference Softball Weekly Honor Roll, it was announced Tuesday. Bhuiyan pitched a combined 12 innings over four games, allowing five runs, only two earned runs, struck out three, and earned a save and a complete game win.
