In boys’ high school volleyball action Thursday, Downingtown West topped host Avon Grove 3-1. Luke Christian and Brian O’Hara led the way for the Whippets. Gavin Swain, Zach Hudson, Josh Puffenberger and Dylan Casper were the standouts for the Red Devils. The scores were 25-22, 25-13, 25-27, 25-21.
Boys Lacrosse
Bishop Shanahan 12, Great Valley 5 >> Clinging to a 4-3 halftime lead, the Eagles outscored the Patriot 8-2 the rest of the way. Nate Bracken paced Shanahan (4-0 overall) with three goals while teammates Joe Devine, Nate Kennedy and Mack Manley each added two goals.
Girls Lacrosse
Downingtown East 19, Coatesville 9 >> Sofia Fanelli scored two goals, reaching the 200-point milestone for her career, to lead the Cougars past the Raiders in Ches-Mont action. Cameron Yard (four goals), Jayne Michaels (three goals, three assists), Riley Marks (three goals, assist) and Lexie Conte (two goals) also made an impact for East. Avery O’Hara had three goals and Kaylee Harvey added two goals for Coatesville.
Softball
Downingtown West 9, Central Bucks South 0 >> Pitcher Addy Carter allowed just three hits and struck out nine while notching a complete-game shutout for the Whippets. West banged out 13 hits, including three hits from Jaylyn McIntire and two hits by Lizzie Kern including a triple and home run.

Immaculata 10, Centenary 4; Immaculata 8, Centenary 2 >> The Mighty Macs swept an Atlantic East Conference doubleheader. It was a milestone day for two Immaculata players who reached the 200 career hit plateau. Joey Sacco went 3-for-3 in game one of the doubleheader to become the first player in IU baseball program history to reach 200 career hits. Sacco was joined by Josh Crowding, who went 2-for-4 in game two, to reach the milestone.
