The Conestoga boys’ lacrosse squad opened the 2024 campaign with a 7-3 non-league victory over Germantown Academy on Friday. The Pioneers led from start to finish, including a 4-1 halftime advantage. Clif Hawkins led the way with three goals, and Holt McGinn added two goals and won 12 of 13 face offs for ‘Stoga. Liam Donovan and Brian Ford each chipped in a goal and an assist for the winners.

Softball

Downingtown East 4, Methacton 0 >> Winning pitcher Rachael Schumann fanned 11, allowed just four hits and one walk in a complete game effort. Hailey Long went 2-for-3 with two RBI, and Lucia Giuliano hit a triple for the Cougars.

Boys Tennis

Downingtown West 5, West Chester Henderson 2 >> The Whippets swept the four doubles matches en route to a Ches-Mont victory. The team of Nolan Stocker and Akshit Arunachalam topped Abhi Kandalam and Senhit Shandangi 6-4, 6-2 in second doubles for West. Zach Evans and Patrick Sinnott prevailed and Nos. 1 and 2 singles for the Warriors.

College

Baseball

Immaculata 10, Ursinus 0 >> The Macs cruised to a non-league win thanks to a four-hit outing by Joey Sacco. Josh Crowding went 3-for-4 including a two-run home run, while teammates Ryan Struble and Sal Serici each had two hits for Immaculata. Pitcher Stephen DiBattista was throwing a no hitter to start the contest until the Bears managed a two out single in the top of the fifth. He went on to hurl eight shutout innings, allowing three hits and striking out six.

Gymnastics

West Chester 193.975, Cornell 192.325 >> Senior Caroline Cascadden tied the school record on the floor exercise to help lead host WCU in a dual meet at Sturzebecker Health Science Center. West Chester individuals won two of the four events while the Golden Rams shattered the school record on the floor just one week after setting a new standard at Temple. West Chester scored a 49.275 on the floor in sweeping the top five spots.
