After a flood of silver, Niya Jeffers added a golden flourish Saturday by winning the high jump at the PFTCA Indoor Track Carnival.

The Chester sophomore cleared 5-5 in the high jump to win the event at Lehigh and qualify for the state meet.

Chester had collected plenty of medals, though all of the silver variety. Damira Allen ran 9.07 seconds to make states as the runner-up in the 60-meter hurdles. Alasia Mosley’s 7.84 in the 60-meter dash did the same, as did JaNasia Dearry (57.37) in the 400.

Chester was fourth in the 4 x 400, an event won by Penncrest in 4:01.99. Both times get to states. Chester got two medals on the boys side from Quamere Cosby, second in the 200 in 22.49 seconds and fourth in the 400 in 49.61. The former came just .01 behind Harriton’s Ade Lloyd.

Garnet Valley’s Felicia Grimmelbein finished fourth in the 60-meter dash and fifth in the 200. Isabella Tront took third in the high jump for the Jaguars, and Jack Kalish’s eighth-place time in the 60-meter hurdles was states-worthy.

Kamryn Ohm finished fourth in the pole vault for Penncrest. Edomias Mulugeta placed third in the boys’ 3,000 meters, while Rowan Carr was fourth in the mile. Noah Wampole of Radnor cleared 6-5 to land second in the high jump.

At the TFCAofGP Last Chance Meet:

Alphonso Koukou set a meet record in the shot put, throwing 58 feet, 2 inches to account for one of three Episcopal Academy golds on Friday at Lehigh.

Koukou downed the record set in 2022 by Patrick Donaher of Haverford School by more than two feet.

Koukou was joined in the winners’ circle by Abaas Hunter, who went 51.09 to claim the 400 meters. The Churchmen won the distance medley relay in 10:30.25, good for a berth at states.

Delco schools won five golds on the night. Haverford School’s Keegan Jacobs prevailed in a jump-off to claim the high jump. He had cleared 6-0. Teammate James Gates was third in the pole vault.

Ridley’s Jesufifunmi Olugbenga went 1:57.80 to win the 800 meters, sealing a states place. Second in the race was teammate Jackson Kane. They’re off to states, as are Nick Gdowik and Joey Lanci, who placed sixth and seventh, respectively, in the mile.

Dan Wuenschel was third in the mile for Strath Haven, a spot ahead of Kadin Salaria. His Penncrest teammate Rowan Carr was second in the 3,000. Gabriel Olaniyi booked a states place, the Upper Darby runner third in the 60 hurdles. Penn Wood’s Ricky Mason was fourth in the 400. Joseph Garzio got to states for Radnor in fourth in the 800.
