Roundup (Feb. 3): Savannah Richards helps Pottstown to third-place finish at Lady Vikings Classic

Girls’ Wrestling

Savannah Richards was the champion at 118 pounds as she helped Pottstown to a third-place finish at Perkiomen Valley’s Lady Vikings Classic on Feb. 3.

Richards won 10-4 over Cheltenham’s Ashae Branch-Huston in the final. Four other Trojan wrestlers qualified for the third-place matches with Tara Morgan (112) and Vida Torres (190) placing third while Malayasia Williams (106) and Emely Villegas (136) finished fourth.

William Tennent (92) won the team title, followed by Exeter (78) and Pottstown (75).

The Pioneer Athletic Conference had another champion in Owen J. Roberts freshman Gianna Jones, the champion at 124 pounds via pin over Exeter’s Liberty Furman.

OJR’s Grace Capoocia placed fourth at 170.

Host Perkiomen Valley had a podium finisher in Hayden Tschoepe, who placed third at 130.

Boys’ Basketball

Phoenixville 70, Owen J. Roberts 47

Phoenixville overwhelmed Owen J. Roberts in both teams’ regular season finales Saturday afternoon at OJR.

Max Lebisky scored 19 and Dawson Brown netted 14 for the PAC Frontier DIvision champion Phantoms (9-1, 10-3, 16-6). Phoenixville will be the No. 2 seed in the PAC tournament and will return to action in a semifinal on Friday, Feb. 9.

OJR concluded its season with an 8-14 record. Luke Fryer and Colin KIng scored 20 apiece.

Fryer closed the regular season as PAC leading scorer at 23.4 points per game.

Methacton 77, Emmaus 68

Methacton (16-6 Overall, 10-3 PAC, 8-2 Liberty) finished the regular season with a 77-68 win over Emmaus. Christian Matos led the Warriors with 20 points while Sal Iemmello added 19. Matos and Iemmello shot 12-for-14 from the foul line and Manny Rodriguez hit two threes during the 4th quarter to secure the victory.

Bishop Shanahan 69, Upper Merion 61

Sean Griffin scored 26 points and the Eagles edged Upper Merion in non-league play on Feb. 3.

Josh Nguyen knocked down six 3-pointers on the way to 22 points for the Vikings. Jack McFadden added 10 for Upper Merion, which fell to 8-13.

Girls’ Basketball

Phoenixville 50, Owen J. Roberts 45

Phoenixville capped its PAC slate with a crossover win over OJR. The back-to-back Frontier Division champions got 12 points from Emine Ulcay and 10 from Kayden Baratta.

Phoenixville is the No. 2 seed for the PAC tournament and earns a bye into the semifinals, which are set for Saturday, Feb. 10.

Asya Price topped OJR’s scoring with 21 points.
