Roundup (Jan. 31): Upper Perkiomen, Boyertown lock up division titles in PAC wrestling

Upper Perkiomen 54, Pottsgrove 15

In the showdown of Pioneer Athletic Conference Frontier Division unbeatens, Upper Perkiomen left no doubt.

The Indians won the first 10 bouts of its matchup with Pottsgrove, ultimately winning 54-15 to claim the PAC Frontier Division title on Jan. 31 at Pottsgrove.

Pins from Ben Godshall (121), Sean Murray (127) and Brandon Godshall (133) plus majors from Gabriel Tulone (114), Branden Rozanski (139) and Roy Cobb (152) allowed Upper Perk to surge to a 54-0 lead with the aid of four forfeits.

Pottsgrove earned a few consolation results with a decision for Jake Palladino and pins from Alex Vasquez (215) and Damien Poloway (285) to close the night.

Upper Perk swept the Frontier, improving to 5-0 (8-5 overall). Pottsgrove moved to 4-1 PAC, 10-9 overall.

Boyertown 34, Perkiomen Valley 24

Boyertown completed its sweep of the PAC Liberty Division on the road with a 34-24 win against Perkiomen Valley.

The Bears won seven of eight matches between 121 and 172, turning a 10-0 deficit into a 31-14 advantage.

Brody Coleman (121), Gavin Sheridan (133) and Ryder Gehris (160) registered pins in the crucial run.

Boyertown’s next outing is in the District 1-3A Duals tournament quarterfinals Saturday morning when the Bears meet Spring-Ford, 8:30 a.m. at Upper Dublin.

Brady Quinn and Michael Godri delivered for Owen J. Roberts in the final two matches to allow the Wildcats to defeat Methacton 39-25 on Jan. 31. Methacton closed to within 29-25 with two to go but Quinn majored at 145, 11-2, before Godri capped the proceeding with a pin at 152 pounds.

OJR built a 26-6 lead with a five-match run early that included pins from Dillon Becthold, Dean Becthold and Tyler Maack.
