High Schools: Calvin Williams’ 31 points help Chester rout AP

Make it 15 straight wins for Chester boys basketball.

The Clippers tallied 60 points in the first half on the way to a 97-51 demolition of Academy Park Thursday.

The Clippers (16-1, 6-0 Del Val) led by 41 points at the break. Calvin Williams had 31 points in the first half and added 12 rebounds. Daron Harris scored 10 points, and Dante Atkinson added nine points. Chester had 11 players score, and 10 scored at least five points each.

Anthony Blue led Academy Park with 15 points.

In the Central League:

Radnor 43, Penncrest 30 >> Kessy Cox and Elijah Sellers scored 13 points each as the Raptors overturned a four-point halftime deficit and avenged a loss to start the league slate.

Michael Savadove contributed seven points, three assists and four steals for Radnor.

Lower Merion 72, Upper Darby 50 >> Kudee Mooney scored 19 points, and the Royals led after one quarter, but the Aces outscored them 41-15 over the middle two frames. Elijah Gunther chipped in 15 points for UD.

Conestoga 58, Haverford 49 >> Reese Fitzgibbons scored 10 of his 15 points to help the Fords stay in contact, but they were playing catchup from the beginning after a 14-7 deficit from the first quarter on.

Andrew Stiegleman hit four 3-pointers for 14 points. Billy Williams chipped in nine points for the Fords.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Sun Valley 54, Kennett 48 >> Kaiden Robinson scored 16 points to lead three players in double figures and keep the Vanguards (10-7, 5-3) in the thick of the hunt. Blaise Eldridge chipped in 11 points and Aaron Freeman had 10.

In nonleague action:

W.C. Henderson 75, Chichester 60 >> Carlton Gordy went off for 27 points, but the Eagles couldn’t quite keep pace with the visiting Warriors. Jayon Harris and Warren Wideman added seven points each.

Chester Charter Scholars Academy 65, Martin Luther King 30 >> Trey Caldwell scored 11 points and Abraham Konneh added 10 as the Sabers rolled.

Wrestling

Peyton Duffy started out with a decision at 107 pounds, but Garnet Valley dropped a 48-18 decision to Quakertown in District 1 Class 3A duals on Thursday.

Owen Burns won a decision at 121 pounds, and Nolan Carroll scored a quick pin at 139. The Jaguars were within 18-12 at that point, but Quakertown won six of the last seven bouts. The only break was Paxton Hunt’s pin at 172 pounds.

Also in District 1 Duals:

Sun Valley 45, Perkiomen Valley 30 >> Brandon Carr’s pin at 172 pounds capped four straight wins for the Vanguards to supply the cushion needed for a victory on Wednesday.

Carr followed William Cadden’s pin at 160, a major decision for Hunter Delaney at 152 and Joshua Wolters’ pin at 145. The Vanguards won seven of the first eight bouts to build a 39-6 edge that was never in doubt.

John Deorio finished with a pin at 114.

Boys Swimming

Chase Bearley won the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly as Episcopal Academy bested Penn Charter, 105-75, in an Inter-Ac meet.

Second in the 100 fly was Jacob Kim, who was also second to Tyler Mantash in the 50 freestyle. Mantash and Kim were part of the 200 medley relay, while Bearley and Mantash helped EA win the 200 free relay.

Michael Rorer won the 500 free, Luka Filipovski captured the 100 backstroke and Ford Murphy paced a podium sweep in diving.

Great Valley 115, Sun Valley 56 >> Luke Habich prevailed in the 100 free for the Vanguards’ only victory.

Girls Swimming

Kara Damico added to her strong season with wins in the 50 free and 100 free, but Sun Valley dropped a 109-61 decision to Great Valley.

Damico went 24.87 to win the 50 free and 56.18 in the 100. Cassidy Dormer won the 500 free, and Damico anchored the Vanguards’ winning 200 free relay.

Penn Charter 98.5, Episcopal Academy 87.5 >> Joyce Liu won the 200 free and nearly rallied to pull a surprise in the 500 free, but the Churchwomen dropped a narrow decision.

Joy Ying scored 273.00 points to lead a 1-2-3 result in diving for EA. Hannah Neilly propagated the momentum by winning the 100 fly. Liu came out of the 500 to anchor the winning 200 free relay, then Molly Lo won the 100 back for EA.
