Academy Park’s homecoming game with Downingtown East was postponed Friday afternoon due to security reasons.

Southeast Delco School District sent a message to families in the afternoon informing them of the postponement.

“Police are currently investigating a rumor spreading on social media concerning the safety and welfare of tonight’s events,” the email stated. “In an abundance of caution, we are postponing both the football game and any scheduled Homecoming activities this evening. We understand that many in the Southeast Delco family were looking forward to tonight, but we must keep the safety of our community as our to priority.”

According to the statement, a makeup date for the football game and other homecoming activities will be announced “after police finish their investigation.”

Friday was supposed to mark the first home night game at Academy Park since August 2021, when 8-year-old Fanta Bility was killed by police gunfire after a game with Pennsbury.

Academy Park has one home game remaining scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 28 against Chester. The Knights are at Interboro next Saturday and at Penn Wood on Friday, Oct. 20.
