High School Roundup: Springfield Montco field hockey edges Wissahickon

FIELD HOCKEY

Springfield Montco 2, Wissahickon 1: Natalie Rittle and Gabi Maletta scored in the first half and the Spartans held off the Trojans for an SOL crossover win Tuesday. Rittle got the scoring started late in the first quarter, finishing a breakaway to put Springfield on top. Maletta made it 2-0 when she scored on a penalty corner, assisted by Emma Yoder, in the second quarter. The Spartans successfully defended 20 penalty corners. Kayla Pak scored for Wissahickon in the third quarter.

North Penn 12, Harry Truman 0: The Knights took the lead just 2:08 into the game and never looked back, cruising to an SOL crossover win over Truman Tuesday. Paige Shearer scored the first goal, which proved to be the game-winner, and added another later in the first quarter. North Penn led 7-0 after the first quarter, 9-0 at halftime and 12-0 after three.

Boyertown 6, Pottsgrove 0: Hannah Ulrich and Peyton Shellaway each scored two goals in the Bears PAC win Tuesday. Emily Ulrich and Lauren Grim also found the back of the cage.

Villa Maria Academy 7, Archbishop Carroll 0: Caitlin Connell scored three goals to lead Villa Maria to a non-league win over the Patriots Tuesday. Carroll goalkeeper Fiona Conboy made 10 saves.

Twin Valley 1, Daniel Boone 0: Adrianna Hall scored the lone goal in Twin Valley’s win over Daniel Boone Tuesday. Daniel Boone goalkeeper Breanne Marchiano made 14 saves.

GIRLS SOCCER

Daniel Boone 1, Twin Valley 0: Anna Buckwalter scored the game-winning goal for Daniel Boone against Twin Valley Tuesday. Sophia Woodcock had the assist.

GIRLS VOLLEYBALL

Marple Newtown 3, Phoenixville 0: The Phantoms lost a non-league match in three sets Tuesday. Kristen Brown had 13 kills and 22 digs for Phoenixville while Kailey Hudy added 35 assists, Gianna Buce 28 digs, Olivia Jacketti 10 kills and Carla DeBow 10 blocks.

GIRLS TENNIS

Wissahickon 4, Downingtown East 3: The Trojans won two singles matches and two doubles matches to pick up a non-league win Tuesday. Yiyi Huang took first singles,7-6, 6-4, while Nicolette Agassi took second singles, 7-6, 6-2. Bowers and Cheng won second doubles and Gordon and Kumar won third doubles.

Methacton 7, Pope John Paul II 0: The Warriors swept the Golden Panthers in a PAC match Tuesday. Hana Nouaime won first singles, 6-0, 6-0, and Lauren Montgomery took second singles, 6-0, 6-0.
