Top seeds advance in Flight 1 singles in BCIAA girls tennis tournament

Conrad Weiser’s Emma Perkins, Hamburg’s Mia Gassert, Reading High’s Hailey Guerrero and Exeter’s Hansika Kunduru reach the crossover semifinals

The top seeds advanced to the crossover semifinals in Flight 1 singles in the BCIAA girls tennis singles and doubles flight tournament, which began Saturday at Leesport and Laureldale.

Reaching Monday’s crossover semifinals, which will be held at Muhlenberg, are Conrad Weiser’s Emma Perkins, the three-time defending champ and the No. 1 Class 2A seed; Hamburg’s Mia Gassert, last year’s runner-up and the Class 2A No. 2 seed; Reading High’s Hailey Guerrero, the Class 3A No. 1 seed; and Exeter’s Hansika Kunduru, the Class 3A No. 2 seed.

Perkins, who is looking to join Wilson’s Cara Wirth (2008-11) and Wyomissing’s Martha Blakely (2006-10) as four-time champs, defeated Berks Catholic’s Isabella Logozzo 6-0, 6-0 and Fleetwood’s Erin Sonon 6-1, 6-0.

Gassert defeated Tulpehocken’s Mia Pugh 6-0, 6-0 and Brandywine Heights’ Abby Davidheiser 6-0, 6-1.

Guerrero defeated Exeter’s Mya Marturano, the No. 2 Class 3A seed, 6-2, 7-5. Kunduru defeated Wilson’s Jin Lin Chen, the third seed, 6-1, 6-3. Guerrero and Kunduru had first-round byes.

Perkins will face Kunduru, and Gassert will meet Guerrero Monday.

The winners will play in the county final Tuesday at Muhlenberg at 2 p.m.
