Conrad Weiser senior Emma Perkins will begin her quest for a fourth straight BCIAA Flight 1 singles title when the Berks girls tennis singles and doubles flight tournament opens Saturday at 9 a.m. at Schuylkill Valley and Muhlenberg.

Perkins is trying to join Wilson’s Cara Wirth (2008-11) and Wyomissing’s Martha Blakely (2006-10) as four-time champs.

The tournament was supposed to begin Friday, but the start was pushed back due to the weather.

The event continues Monday at Muhlenberg, starting at 9 a.m. The Flight 1 singles final is scheduled for Tuesday at Muhlenberg at 2 p.m. The tournament concludes Wednesday at Muhlenberg at 4 p.m.

Perkins is the No. 1 seed in Flight 1 in Class 2A. Hamburg’s Mia Gassert, last year’s runner-up, is seeded second in Class 2A. The third seed is Fleetwood’s Erin Sonon and the fourth is Berks Catholic’s Sarah Schnatz.

In Class 3A, the No. 1 seed in Flight 1 is Reading High’s Hailey Guerrero. Exeter’s Hansika Kunduru is seeded second, Wilson’s Jin Lin Chen third and Exeter’s Myah Marturano fourth.

Flight 1 singles and doubles has Class 2A and Class 3A brackets. The top two remaining in each bracket advance to the crossover semifinals.

Perkins defeated Gassert 6-1, 6-3 in last year’s final.

Perkins also is going for her third Flight 1 doubles title in four years. She won with Victoria Waltz last year and with Alex Pancu in 2020. She finished second with Michelle Timothy in 2021.

Perkins and Isabel Wiggins are the top Class 2A seeds in Flight 1 doubles. Hailey Guerrero and her sister Hallie are the No. 1 Class 3A seeds in Flight 1 doubles.
