High Schools: Avery Le’s two goals help boost Episcopal past GA

Avery Le scored twice Friday to lead Episcopal Academy to a 5-0 win over Germantown Academy in a Inter-Ac League girls soccer game.

Quinn Whitaker, Maya Bright and Kate Dente also scored for the Churchwomen, who outshot GA 39-7, presumably not all of them being on goal.

Addie Chang, Whitaker, Mia Ganzhorn and Sofia Gagliardi had assists. Lauren Creamer oversaw the shutout.

In the Central League on Thursday:

Haverford 3, Ridley 1 >> Melinda Howe had the Ridley goal, scored late in the second half. Ridley’s Rachel Jarmon posted seven saves as the Green Raiders dropped to 4-7, with all seven losses coming in Central League play. No details were reported for Haverford.

Sacred Heart 2, Bristol 1 >> Caitlyn Kennedy scored with just more than two minutes remaining to boost the Lions to victory.

Sacred Heart also got a goal from Emma Donnelly, while Ema Reiner and Abby Kucera assisted. Goalie Julia Zelahy had five saves.

Boys Soccer

Lior Minsky, Ian Gallagher and Andrew Deppen came up big for Strath Haven late Thursday, leading a second-half charge for a 3-1 Central League victory over Garnet Valley at Strath Haven.

Assisting on the goals for the aforementioned Panthers were Jacob Wenke (two) and Beckett Young.

Will Hall made eight saves for the Panthers.

Delco Christian 8, Collegium Charter 1 >> Brecon Williams, Cortez Cardone and Matthew Levis all scored a pair of goals for the Knights, who improved to 7-2-1.

Griffin Schmitt and Ben Norbury also scored for Delco, while Julium Rigo scored unassisted for CC.

Episcopal Academy 9, Lawrenceville 1 >> Nine separate scorers for the Churchmen: Billy McSwain, Balthazar Buccini, Christian Dankanich, Garrett Wahl, Sam Graham, Dylan Venoechea, Ryan Sewell, Alex Letts and Christian Dankanich.

Field Hockey

Laura Wineburg, Morgan Wood and Sienna Golden each scored a pair of goals to lead Archbishop Carroll to a 12-0 defeat of St. Hubert.

Also chalking up goals were Beth Wineburg, Sam Hewitt, Lucy Sedgwick, Charlotte Simpson, Cate Schumacher and Maggie O’Neill. Golden added two assists while St. Hubert’s Jaelyn Miller made 24 saves.

Episcopal 3, Germantown Academy 2 >> Rebecca Block scored twice and Bella Notaro added a goal for the Churchwomen.

EA won the battle in the corners 18-0 over GA, and dominated the shots by 16-2.

Volleyball

Melanie Mann registered six kills and a block and Izzy Tront had two kills and two blocks as Garnet Valley blanked Cardinal O’Hara 3-0 in a nonleague match.

Cara Furchner and Abigal MacMillan each had six kills for the Jaguars, who prevailed with game scores of 25-21, 25-8 and 25-17.

For O’Hara, Jasmine Sullivan had three kills, 12 assists and six digs, Julia Riley posted nine digs and three aces and Michelle Eburuoh had four kills. O’Hara dropped to 11-2 overall.

Golf

Aiden Hennelly shot a 38 Friday to lead Marple Newtown to a 217-227 victory over host Garnet Valley at Concord Country Club.

Supporting Hennelly were Sarah Koh and James Kirby, who both carded a 43, along with Noah McIntryre (45) and Gray Lauletta (48). Ben Mayer led GV with a 41, while Tim Ianucci added a 44.

Water Polo

Ben McDade scored eight goals and Luke Potter, Henry Pennington, Zack Dixon and Mike Laux had a pair of goals apiece in Haverford School’s 20-9 win over Gonzaga.

Senior goalie Brady Stallkamp made nine saves and had three steals, while fellow senior Robert Cerniglia earned four saves and four steals in net.
