High Schools: Academy Park girls tennis team wins 11th straight Del Val title

The Academy Park girls tennis team celebrated its 11th consecutive Del Val League title Thursday with a 5-0 victory over Penn Wood.

Destiny Bowman won 6-0, 6-0 in the first singles match. Elizabeth Ebigbola was a 6-0, 6-1 winner at second singles, and Brooklyn McNeely was victorious 6-4, 6-1 in the third match.

The Knights’ Ariana Kangar and Keanna Spencer were a 6-0, 6-0 success in the first doubles match. No. 2 Christiyanah Williams and Jane Gorman earned a tough 6-4, 7-5 (7-5) win over Kadiata Makaya and Fatumata Kamana.

Academy Park (6-4, 6-0) will represent the Del Val in the District 1 team tournament in October.

In nonleague matches:

Cardinal O’Hara 5, Sacred Heart 0 >> O’Hara No. 1 Theresa Stolarczyk outlasted Nora Wiedenman 6-0, 7-6 (7-3). Sophia Bora and Sophia Carrey both won in straight sets.

Allison Kirby and Martha Coffey downed Maeve Harvey and Katie Dougherty 6-0, 0-6, 6-1 at first doubles.

Strath Haven 4, Merion Mercy 1 >> Abigail Rappaport cruised to a 6-0, 6-0 win at third singles for the Panthers. No. 2 singles Lena Anderson triumphed 6-2, 6-.

Marple Newtown 7, Sun Valley 0 >> Molly Mucklow and Jordan Corner won in singles competition for the Tigers.

Field Hockey

Lauren Cascarina produced two goals and an assist in Haverford’s 4-2 Central League win over Ridley. Brooke Parker and Riona O’Neil also scored for the Fords.

Sam Flemming and Tori Maurone had a goal apiece for the Green Raiders. Goalie Elise Martin made 26 saves.

Springfield 4, Harriton 0 >> A balanced scoring attack pushed the Cougars past the Rams as Macy Gougler, Jaclyn Guille, Kylie Adolph and Kendall Blankeship scored goals. Maddie Kane supplied three assists and goalie Charlize Garret notched 13 saves.

In nonleague play:

Agnes Irwin 5, Archmere Academy 1 >> Caroline Chisholm tallied twice and handed out an assist for the Owls. Kate Sharkey, Gabby Lee and Grace Connelly each scored once.

Girls Soccer

Carly Coleman’s second-half tally propelled Cardinal O’Hara to a 1-0 win over Archbishop Carroll in Catholic League action.

Ava Hneleski made eight saves in goal.

Archbishop Carroll 10, Bonner & Prendergast 0 >> In a game played Wednesday, Colleen Lloyd, Kat Sincavage, Olivia Stout, Chloe Bleckley, Molly Friel, Lily Ching, Olivia Myers, Maddie McFillin, Ava Talago and Solei Redner all scored for the Patriots.

In the Central League:

Garnet Valley 1, Strath Haven 0 >> Maddie Smith netted the game’s lone goal in the first half off a pass from Sylvie Behl. Reese Regula stopped five shots.

Radnor 1, Lower Merion 1 >> Selah Koleth’s goal in the second half tied the game for Radnor. Ivy Chaskelson had the assist.

Marple Newtown 3, Penncrest 2 >> Illiana Botos delivered the winning goal in double OT for the Tigers. Emiley Frescoln netted two second-half goals as MN erased a 2-0 disadvantage.

Volleyball

Erin Flanagan racked up 14 defensive digs as Notre Dame topped Baldwin School in four sets, 20-25, 25-21, 25-20, 25-18.

Kayla Edginton and Audrey Bergan combined for 15 kills for the Irish (9-4, 3-1 Inter-Ac).

In the Del Val League:

Chichester 3, Chester 0 >> Lillie Shaw had two kills and eight aces, Morgan Wood four kills and two aces, and Keira Murray six aces and nine assists in the Eagles’ 25-3, 25-6, 25-8 victory over the Clippers.

In the Ches-Mont League:

Sun Valley 3, Avon Grove 1 >> Jenna Jones piled up 10 assists, four aces, 14 kills, and eight digs for the Vanguards (11-3). Shannon McGroarty recorded 12 assists, nine kills and seven digs.

In nonleague action:

Agnes Irwin 3, George School 1 >> Raelyn Zelke (seven kills), Grace Getz (six kills) and Merissa Harder (five kills) powered the Owls’ attack. Ella Zwilling had 19 digs, and Priya Johnson collected 23 assists.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 3, Neumann-Goretti 0 >> The Lions (11-1, 5-1) swept the Saints 25-10, 25-14, 24-7. Leading the way was Jasmine Sullivan with three kills, eight assists, seven digs and two aces. Kerigan Patterson contributed five kills, four aces and eight digs.

Michele Eburuoh and Solei Staggs each had five kills and Hannah Lake pitched in with nine assists and two aces. Julia Riley excelled on defense with 10 digs and five aces.

In the Central League:

Strath Haven 3, Penncrest 1 >> Jillian Surkis registered 15 kills, 10 digs and three aces as the Panthers bested the Lions 25-18, 25-15, 22-25, 25-20.

Lauren McGinn added nine kills and four aces, while Eliza Jauregui notched four kills and four blocks. Sophie Hoppe and Sophia Andrews-Sullivan each had four kills. Aislin O’Neill led the Haven defense with 16 digs and three aces.

Radnor 3, Springfield 0 >> Caroline Kirsch posted 10 kills in the Cougars’ loss. Natalie Damia and Keira Schoffler added 10 digs apiece.

Boys Soccer

Second-half goals by James Mullholland and Logan Darby powered Penncrest to a 2-1 Central League win over Marple Newtown. Anders Kristianse had nine saves for the Lions.

Danta Scarduzio scored for the Tigers.

Elsewhere in the Central League:

Ridley 2, Haverford 1 >> Patrick Flynn had the goal for the Fords. No other information was reported.
