Riding high off a 63-point performance last weekend at Cumberland Valley, the Spring-Ford football team was struck back to Earth Friday night at Manheim Township.

The supercharged Blue Streaks saw quarterback Hayden Johnson and receiver Landon Kennel connect on a program record-tying five touchdown passes and Friday’s 63-point night came from Manheim Township in a 63-28 shakeup to Spring-Ford.

It was the Rams’ first defeat of the season (3-1) while Pa. top-10 ranked Manheim Township stays unbeaten (4-0).

Four of Kennel’s touchdowns came in the first half as Township built a 42-14 lead.

Johnson, who completed 24-of-31 passes for 356 yards and six TDs, found Kennel again on the second possession of the second half.

Township (4-0) was devastating on offense in the first two quarters, all six drives ending in the end zone and racking up 371 total yards (229 passing, 142 rushing).

Spring-Ford managed to flash its own powerful passing game – quarterback Matt Zollers threw for 311 yards – but the defense couldn’t provide enough resistance to the Blue Streaks.
