Pope John Paul II went on the road and earned a quality victory at Chambersburg, blanking the Trojans 22-0 for a season-opening victory.
PJP’s T.J. Boccella had two sacks and numerous hits on Trojans QB Jake Harmon to lead the defensive charge while Brent Mitala and Dylan Skarbek registered interceptions.
The Golden Panthers (1-0) broke out after a scoreless first half with a 19-point third quarter. Boyd Skarbek’s eight-yard TD run at the 7:43 mark opened the scoring. Skarbek carried 29 times for 197 yards.
PJP found the end zone two more times in succession, Brent Mitala and Denny Owens on the receiving end of Luke Terlesky throws of six and 25 yards, respectively, to suddenly take a 19-point lead within a 5:14 span.
