High Schools: Saito leads Strath Haven girls tennis to win over Upper Darby

Strath Haven sweeps Upper Darby, 7-0

Singles players Minori Saito, Lena Anderson and Abigail Rappaport all won love-love as Strath Haven cruised to a 7-0 Central League victory over Upper Darby on Wednesday.

In doubles action, the pairings of Emily Lin and Emma Olenik, Talia Galante and Kathryn Lin, and Hewitty Lucy and Zaina Alam triumphed 6-0, 6-0.

In another Central League match:

Garnet Valley 7, Springfield 0 >> No. 1 singles player Taryn Law earned a 6-1, 6-0 win, and No. 2 Sanjana Balaji was a 6-1, 6-2 winner to lead the Jaguars over the Cougars. Third singles player Catherine Qian won 6-0, 6-2.

In nonleague action:

Cardinal O’Hara 4, Marple Newtown 3 >> Sophia Carey and Martha Coffey eked out a 6-4, 7-5 win at first doubles as O’Hara won all four doubles matches to claim the victory.

Kayla Stewart and Busayo Lawal won at second doubles. Gianna Harris and Gabbi Bonfini prevailed at third doubles. Mayowa Lawal and Elena Stavish were victorious at fourth doubles for the Lions.

Marple’s singles players didn’t drop a set. Grace Corner won 6-3, 6-4 at first. Jordan Corner was a 6-4, 6-1 winner at second. Bella Graci prevailed 6-3, 6-3 at third.

Downingtown East 7, Garnet Valley 0 >> Talon Law and Angela Pan at first doubles and Disha Tripathy and Sofia Tolotta at third doubles both battled to 2-6, 4-6 losses, but the Jags were swept by the Cougars on Thursday.

Dhriti Munagala, Maya Shankar and Joya Mentrikoski swept singles matches for East.

Golf

Ryan Anderson carded a 37 at Concord Country Club to lead Penncrest to a 219-225 win over Garnet Valley Thursday.

Gavin Brown added a 40 for the Lions. The six-stroke edge over the top two scorers proved to be the difference.

Chris Pettineo led Garnet Valley with a 40. Ben Mayer and Timmy Iannucci scored 43 each.
