DLN roundup: Kennett girls, boys lacrosse teams romp to victory in district openers

The Kennett High School girls’ lacrosse team defeated Central Bucks West, 16-3, Tuesday in its PIAA District 1 3A tournament opener. The No. 9 seed Blue Demons got hat tricks from Makayla Kelly, Bridget Wells and Megan Ward, and goalie Elle McCracken had a first-half shutout with six saves (four of them 8-meter). The Blue Demons advance to play No. 8 seed Radnor Thursday in a rematch of last year’s playoffs.
Boys’ Lacrosse
Kennett 15, Owen J Roberts 8 >> The No. 9 seed Blue Demons prevailed in this PIAA District 1 3A first-round contest against 24th-seeded Owen J Roberts. Kennett was led by Zach Hulme (six goals, three assists), Bo Freebery (four goals, four assists), Colin Jung (four goals) and goalie Josh Holt (11 saves). With the win, the Blue Demons will noe face No. 8 seed Boyertown Thursday.
Council Rock North 13, Downingtown West 12 >> The No. 17 seed Whippets got four goals and two assists from Bram Monroe and three goals and two assists from Bret Bergey. Ty Raines scored two goals for D-West, and teammate Thomas Venzie caused five opponent turnovers. Council Rock North, the 16th seed, advances to play No. 1 seed Radnor Thursday.
Boys’ Tennis
Unionville 5, Abington Heights 0 >> The Longhorns, the third-place finisher in the District 1 3A tournament, gave District 2 champion Abington Heights its first defeat of the season in its PIAA 3A state tourmanet opener in KIngston. Unionville will now face District 7 champion Gateway Friday in Hershey.
Conestoga 4, St. Joseph’s Prep 0 >> The Pioneers, the second-place finisher in the District 1 3A tourney, defeated District 12 runnerup St. Joseph’s Prep in its PIAA 3A state tourney opener. Conestoga will face District 6 champion Holidaysburg in Hershey Friday.
Downingtown East 3, Liberty 0 >> The Cougars sent District 11 champion Liberty to its first defeat of the season in its PIAA 3A state tourney opener. D-East will face District 3 champion Dallastown Friday in Hershey in the state team quarterfinals.
