DLN Roundup: Devon Prep comeback bid falls short

In non-league baseball action Thursday, Devon Prep staged a late comeback but fell just short, 9-8, against Upper Merion. The Tide scored first, but found themselves down 7-1 in the third inning. Nick Gunn drove in a run during the comeback for Devon Prep, and teammates Joe Ficoturo and Hayden Stasuk each had two hits.

Softball

Bishop Shanahan 16, Unionville 1 >> In Ches-Mont action, the Eagles raced out to a 5-0 first inning lead and cruised to the victory. Alexa Bojko had a triple and Maddie Moher notched an RBI for the Eagles. Jillian Heimberger went 3-for-3 with two doubles and two runs batted in for Unionville.

Boy’s Lacrosse

Penncrest 13, W.C. Henderson 5 >> The Warriors were outscored 7-2 in a pivotal third period and dropped a non-conference clash with the Lions. Max Abrahams led the way with two goals for Henderson. Seamus Murphy, Carmen Cortese and Matt Twohig each had one goal for the Warriors.

West Chester Rustin 16, Methaction 3 >> The Knights led 10-2 at the half and went on to easily top its non-league foe. Marek Seaman had a game-high four goals, while Jack O’Hora, Antonio Santagelo and Nate Pechin each added three goals for Rustin. Jake Jackson chipped in two goals and two assists for the winners.

Girls Lacrosse

Conestoga 9, Episcopal 5 >> Kate Galica and Kiki Liebezeit each scored three times to lead the Pioneers to a non-league win. Keating Hopkins added two goals and Ellie Wisch had a goal and an assist for ’Stoga (3-0 overall).

Bishop Shanahan 16; Central Bucks South 6 >> The Eagles raced out to 9-3 halftime lead and cruised to a non-league victory. Caitlyn Hubiak led the way with three goals, Annabelle Wiedel, Carly McCullough, Amelia Benner, Riley Murray and Silvia Baptista each added two goals apiece for Shanahan.

Plymouth Whitemarsh 9, Downingtown East 3 >> Lexie Conte scored twice to lead the Cougars in non-conference action. Eileen Hewitt and Cameron Yard each added a goal and two assists for East.

Ridley 9, Oxford 6 >> Mackenzie Clark and Alexis Reinard each scored two goals but it wasn’t enough for the Hornets. Gwynn Taggart and Emma Coates had single goals for Oxford.

Strath Haven 13, West Chester Rustin 6 >> Jordyn Krafchick registered three goals and added an assist for the Golden Knights. Elizabeth McGurk and Izzie Mintz chipped in three and two goals, respectively, for Rustin.
