
In early season non-conference boys’ tennis action on Thursday, Downingtown West topped Owen J. Roberts, 6-1. In singles, the Whippets’ Cash Bailey and Jack Shelton prevailed in straight sets. West won all four doubles matches. The most competitive was at No. 3 where Aakash Kalmady and Ayush Karkare edged Alec Kanavy and Abhi Nukala 6-6 (7-5), 6-4.
College Baseball
Immaculata 16, Haverford 8 >> Freshman Robert Woodward led the way for the Mighty Macs at the plate, driving in three on an RBI triple as part of an eight run second inning. Woodward would also add a double in the contest.
Kristian Saucedo would get the Mighty Macs on the board in the second, driving in Justin Klemick and Woodward. It was an inning that saw the Macs bat around, bringing 13 guys to the plate. The Mighty Macs would go on to be shut out the rest of the way by strong Haverford pitching.
Softball
Immaculata 10, Delaware Valley 0 (5 innings); Immaculata 13, Delaware Valley 7 >> Emma Mercadante was outstanding in the circle for the Mighty Macs, pitching a no-hitter in game one to lead Immaculata (4-2 overall) to a non-conference sweep. Mercadante struck out five and allowed no walks. It was the first no hitter in program history dating back to 2007. In the nightcap, IU starter Courtney Gable earned the win by going the distance, allowing 11 hits, seven runs, and striking out three.
