Haverford High School’s Caroline Dotsey is Main Line Girls Athlete of the Week (Feb. 27-March 5)

The senior is leading the way for the Fords (26-0 as of Feb. 27) this winter, averaging 18.0 ppg, 11.5 rpg and 2 apg. A two-time All-Main Line first team girls’ basketball selection, the University of Maine commit scored her 1,000th career point Dec. 29 vs. Tottenville (N.Y.) in the Brooklyn Bridge Holiday Classic with 23 points on the night. Haverford High School girls’ basketball head coach Lauren Pellicane said, “Caroline has been a multi-dimensional threat on both ends of the floor all season long. She has been dominant at times and is a major reason why we are in the position we are in right now. She leads by example and sets the bar for others to follow. Her leadership on and off the court has been instrumental in the rebuilding of our program.”

Q: You scored your 1,000th career point in the third quarter of the Fords’ first game at the Brooklyn Bridge Holiday Classic — describe the play, your role in it, and your first reaction when you realized it was your 1,000th point.

A: I wasn’t aware of how close I was to 1000 until my sister Rian (a sophomore teammate) told me I was two points away. I scored after receiving a pass from Aniya (Eberhart) and taking the ball down the floor for a layup. When I scored, the first thing I did was hug Rian. She was the first person I looked for and I was so glad we were able to be on the floor together for this moment. I was surrounded by the rest of my team and coaches and the energy in the gym was so amazing.

Q: What has been your favorite memory of this season to date?

A: Winning the Central League Championship and cutting down the net is definitely my favorite memory from this season. Seeing the work this team has put in finally pay off was very fulfilling.

Q: What area of your game do you feel you improved the most this season? What part of your game are you working on the most currently?

A: This year I feel like my leadership skills improved both on and off the court. I also feel I have been able to play with consistency. I plan to continue to improve all aspects of my game to become a more well-rounded player. I feel that focusing on fundamentals will allow me to reach my goals.

Q: You mentioned that your competitiveness and work ethic are the biggest things you’ve picked up from your family regarding athletics. Can you give us an example of this?

A: Rian and I push each other to continue to get better every day. I think both of us have the drive to compete with each other, which only makes us better. As for my work ethic, my parents have taught me the value of hard work. Being able to see the work ethic they have instilled in me is something that I feel will stick with me forever.

Q: Who is your favorite basketball player and why?

A: My current favorite player is Maddie Siegrist. I love her ability to dictate the game from anywhere on the court. She’s such a fun player to watch.

Q: What do you plan to major in at the University of Maine? Is there a career path that particularly interests you at the present time?

A: I plan to major in Biology while at The University of Maine. I have hopes of eventually working in the medical field.

Q: As a member of the National Honor Society, you participated in community service outside of the classroom, and you served as a volunteer coach for the “Little Hoopers” basketball clinics alongside some of your teammates at Haverford High. What is your favorite memory of this experience?

A: I loved working with the kids in our community. Being able to share my love of basketball with such a large group makes coaching so rewarding. My favorite part of these clinics was seeing the progress each kid has made by the end of our time together.
