DLN roundup: D-East’s Connor Shanahan scores 1,000th point, sets single-game scoring record with 59 points

Downingtown East’s Connor Shanahan scored his career 1,000th point, and also set a school single-game scoring record with 59 points, as the Cougars (7-13) boys basketball squad defeated Avon Grove, 102-93, in double overtime Tuesday. Shanahan scored four points in the first period, nine in the second quarter, 10 in the third period, 23 in the fourth quarter, two in the first overtime period and 11 in the second overtime.
Downingtown East scored 35 points in the fourth quarter, outscoring Avon Grove 35-26 in the period, to send the game into overtime. Also for the Cougars, Micah Hill scored 16 points and Ishaan Jha 12. For the Red Devils, Michael Britton and Adam Ziegler each scored 20 points, Kyle Anthony tallied 19 and Brock Bernstein scored 17.
West Chester East 62, Bishop Shanahan 45 >> For the Vikings, the quartet of Jack Kushner (12 points), Jose Ramos (11 points), KJ Cochran (10 points) and Jack Gallagher (10 points) led the way. CHraley Federico scored 19 points for the Eagles.
Malvern Prep 71, Episcopal Academy 63 >> Ryan Williams led the Friars with 25 points (18 in the second half), and teammate Andrew Phillips added 18 (going 8-for-10 from the free throw line).

Girls’ basketball
Bishop Shanahan 43, West Chester East 32 >> The Eagles (10-0 in the Ches-Mont) clinched their second consecutive National Division title with the victory. Faith Ambrose led Shanahan with 18 points. Annalise Kubasko led the Vikings with 13 points.
Conestoga 55, Ridley 35 >> The Pioneers were led by Ryann Jennings (16 points), Maria Francione (13 points) and Jane Preston (12 points).
Unionville 44, Oxford 36 >> Leading the way for the visiting Longhorns (14-4, 6-3) was Milana Amoss with 16 points and Shannon Megill with 12 points. Caroline Tipton led Oxford with 11 points.

Wrestling
Westtown School 64, Friends’ Central 18 >> The Moose (8-3 overall, 4-0 Friends Schools League) got five pins – from Ryan Tookes (113 pounds), Luke Holgate (138),Soren Clunk (144), Santi Benbow (150) and Sam Olojo (190).
