Delco Roundup: Dignazio scores twice for Penn-Haven girls hockey

Annie Dignazio scored twice on the power play in the third period as Penn-Haven rallied from two one-goal deficits to skate away with a 5-2 win over Avon Grove.

Annika Sullivan added a goal and an assist, and Sophie Grant scored the game-winning goal late in the second to lead PHV. Olivia Jacobi made 18 saves.

Boys Hockey
Chris Margadonna and Connor Gluck scored in the first period, but Lower Merion rattled off eight consecutive goals as the Aces topped Ridley, 9-2, Friday night.

Gabby Bissell, Johnny Modesti and Matt Stranix tallied assists for Ridley.

Noam Nisimi led Lower Merion with three goals and three assists. Jeremy Kagan paired two goals with three assists.

Kennett 5, Sun Valley-Chichester 3 >> Aiden Bourne and Julian Diehl scored to give the Vanguards a 2-1 lead after one quarter, but Kennett roared back. Michael Evans scored to go with an assist, and Nate Benz had two helpers. Will Newnom made 32 saves.

Boys Basketball

Calvin Lewis scored 23 points, hitting seven 3-pointers, as Chester Charter Scholars Academy routed Morrisville, 70-40, Friday.

Jayden Williams posted a double-double with 12 points and 11 assists plus six steals. Samaad Powell added 10 points. The Sabers (13-2) led by 38 at halftime.

Haverford School 51, Episcopal Academy 46 >> Silas Graham scored 10 of his game-high 24 points in the second quarter, as the Fords outscored EA, 17-6, over that eight minutes to overturn an eight-point deficit after one quarter.

KJ Carson added seven points for the Fords.

Kevin McCarthy hit five 3-pointers, including three in the first quarter, on the way to 20 points. TJ Lamb added 16 points.

Collegium Charter 62, Delco Christian 57 >> Caleb Jameson led the Knights with 22 points and Khamai Orange added 16, but the Knights (8-7, 6-2 BAL) couldn’t pull out a back-and-forth affair. Beau Lyren supplied 11 points.

Wrestling

Consecutive wins by fall by Gabe Danisi at 150 pounds and Andrew Lyon at 157 put Haverford School in position, but Penn Charter rattled off four straight wins to claim a 39-30 Inter-Ac League win.

Billy Brosko ended the match with a heavyweight pin, but it wasn’t enough for the Fords.

The teams were even after four bouts, thanks to pins by Jay McDonnell at 126 and Matt Hoban at 132.

Swimming

Katya Eruslanova helped Haverford celebrate senior night, winning the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle as the Fords moved to 6-0 in the league with a 99-82 win over Garnet Valley late Thursday night.

Sarah Krissinger won the 50 free, and freshman Winnie Hayes claimed the 100 breaststroke for the Fords.

Garnet Valley’s Mallorie Jeremiah won the 200 free and 400 free. Zoey Rogers, outdueled by Eruslanova in the 200 IM, then prevailed in the 100 butterfly. Dierdre Scudder edged out Krissinger in the 100 backstroke.

The Haverford boys bested Garnet Valley, 96-79, via Kyle Given’s wins in the 100 fly and 100 back. TJ Hayes (200 free), Sam Graaf (200 IM) and Kenny Keagy (50 free) won events in the front half of the meet.

Freshmen Caleb Hines and Owen Ruark went 1-2 in the 400 free, after classmate Jacob Muntz won the 100 free. Senior Jack Schreiner claimed the 100 breast.
