Aces of the pitch: Presenting 2022 All-Main Line girls soccer teams

The Main Line high school girls’ soccer scene featured several strong teams this fall.

Leading teams on the Main Line included Conestoga (19-3-2, third place PIAA District 1 playoffs, PIAA state quarterfinalist), Lower Merion (17-3-1, Central League champion for the third year in a row), Episcopal Academy (17-3-1, Inter-Ac runner-up by one point to nationally ranked Springside Chestnut Hill, PAISAA runnerup), and Villa Maria Academy (15-1-1, seeded second in District 1 3A tourney).

Other local teams that enjoyed winning seasons included Academy of Notre Dame (12-8), Agnes Irwin (9-5-3), Haverford High (9-6-2), and Barrack Hebrew Academy (9-3).

The All-Main Line high school girls soccer teams are selected by the coaches. Because Main Line Media News covers 19 high schools, the Main Line Media News sports staff limits the number of spots available to the first team, second team, and honorable mention – but follows the priority of the coaches’ selections.

What follows are the 2022 All-Main Line high school girls’ soccer teams:

FIRST TEAM

  • Audrey Cain, Academy of Notre Dame – Senior back, a first team All-Inter-Ac selection, was a versatile performer, playing many positions for the Irish as needed. Was a High School All-American Game selection, and will play soccer for Rutgers University next fall.
  • Lily Fusco, Agnes Irwin – Junior forward, a first team All-Inter-Ac selection, was the Owls’ Offensive Most Valuable Player. Considered a gifted technician who can pass, dribble and shoot at a high level.
  • Ella Wright, Archbishop Carroll – Senior midfielder, a first team All-Catholic League selection, tallied 10 goals in 17 games, and is a fine all-around athletic performer who is a standout lacrosse player for the Patriots in the spring.
  • Brynn Borger, Conestoga – Senior striker/central mid, a first team All-Central League selection, tallied 14 goals (including many game-winning scores and go-ahead goals in tight games) and dished out 11 assists.
  • Keira Kemmerley, Conestoga – Sophomore central mid, a first team All-Central League selection, tallied eight goals (many of them key scores) and dished out seven assists. Was a playmaker in the middle for the powerful Pioneers this fall.
  • Greta Steege, Conestoga – Junior goalie was a standout between the pipes for the Pioneers this fall, as she recorded 16 shutouts for the District 1 4A third-place finishers and PIAA 4A state quarterfinalists. Was an All-Central League second team selection.
  • Maya Naimoli, Episcopal Academy – Senior goalie and co-captain, an InterAc co-MVP and a High School All-American Game selection, recorded a 0.58 goals-against average, allowing just 11 goals in 19 games and posting nine shutouts. Committed to Ohio State University.
  • Natalie Magnotta, Episcopal Academy – Junior center back, a first team All-Inter-Ac selection, was a tough defender on a defense that allowed less than one goal per game. An all-around player who provided some offense (three goals, two assists) and is a Penn State commit.
  • Maya Bright, Episcopal Academy – Sophomore forward, a first team All-Inter-Ac selection, tallied 16 goals and dished out seven assists in 21 games, despite being frequently man-marked throughout the Churchwomen’s season.
  • Mollie Carpenter, Haverford High – senior center back and center forward, a first team All-Central League pick, scored many game-tying and game-winning goals for the Fords. Noted for her knack for the ball in all situations, and her 1v1 skills.
  • Elly Slensky, Lower Merion – Senior center midfielder, a first team All-Central League selection for the third time, tallied eight goals and six assists and was the Aces’ MVP. A four-year starter at center mid, she is a Boston College commit.
  • Grace Downey, Lower Merion – Senior forward, a first team All-Central League selection, scored 24 goals in 21 games and dished out seven assists. A four-year starter at forward, The University of Wisconsin-Green Bay commit was the Aces’ offensive MVP this fall.
  • Cate Cantu, Lower Merion – Freshman goalie, a first team All-Central League selection, posted a sterling 0.5 goals-against average this fall, and allowed only three goals in Central League play all season.
  • Seth Koleth, Radnor – Junior midfielder, a first team All-Central League selection, scored nine goals for the Raptors this fall and was selected as Radnor’s Most Valuable Player.
  • Maura Lindeman, Shipley – Senior center midfielder and captain, a first team All-Friends Schools League selection, was the Most Valuable Player of a solid Gators squad. A fine all-around performer who dished out five assists this fall.
  • Kaelyn Wolfe, Villa Maria Academy – Senior midfielder and second-year captain was the AACA’s Most Valuable Player and an all-state selection (the first Hurricane soccer player to receive this honors). Tallied 22 goals and nine assists this fall, and is the school’s all-time leading scorer with 59 goals and 35 assists.
  • Kate Kemmerley, Villa Maria Academy – Freshman striker, a first team AACA all-star, tallied 10 goals and dished out 14 assists. Noted for her speed, athleticism, understanding of the game, quick decision, and fine field vision.
  • Maddie Catania, Villa Maria Academy – Senior goalie and co-captain, an AACA all-star for the second year, was a standout netminder throughout the Hurricanes’ excellent season, posting seven shutouts (22 for her career) with a 0.94 goals-against average. Was Hurricanes’ Defensive MVP.

SECOND TEAM

  • Academy of Notre Dame – Avery Hannah, junior back; Natalie Maye, senior midfielder; Abby Reger, junior forward; Sophia Hall, junior goalie.
  • Agnes Irwin – Abby Ballinger, junior defender; Maya Johnson, senior defender.
  • Archbishop Carroll – Olivia Stout, junior midfielder.
  • Baldwin School – Ana Naylor, senior center back; Maddie Davis, senior outside back/central midfielder/forward.
  • Barrack Hebrew Academy – Eden Singer, senior midfielder; Jenna Ufberg, senior defender; Talia Willner, senior midfielder.
  • Conestoga – Chloe Brown, junior striker; Ava Koziol, senior defender/outside back; Amelie Stewart, sophomore midfielder.
  • Episcopal Academy – Lainey McGonagle, junior defensive center mid, Chelsea Swei, senior central midfielder; Kate Dente, sophomore forward/midfielder.
  • Harriton – Emma Moureaud, junior defender; Ariel Katz, junior attack center midfielder.
  • Haverford High – Deegan Mack, senior midfielder/forward, Alyssa Seavey, senior center back; Nora Burns, senior midfielder/forward.
  • Lower Merion – Casey Forman, sophomore defender/midfielder/forward; Dylan Steinberg, freshman left wing; Sadie Cohen, senior defender.
  • Merion Mercy Academy – Lily Denn, senior forward.
  • Radnor – Ivy Chaskelson, sophomore forward; Olivia Jacobs, sophomore defensive midfielder.
  • Shipley – Talia Devon, junior forward; Katie Gilbert, freshman center mid.
  • Villa Maria Academy – Carly Catania, junior striker; Margaret Flick, junior defender; Olivia Caruso, sophomore striker; Delaney Dobra, senior midfielder.
