Delco High Schools: Bruder’s two goals boost EA past Irish

Charly Bruder scored twice, one off a penalty stroke, as Episcopal Academy handed Notre Dame its first league loss, 2-1, to move into a tie for first place in Inter-Ac League field hockey with the Irish.

The win avenged a 5-1 loss to Notre Dame earlier in the season. Both teams have one regular-season game remaining. Notre Dame visits Springside Chestnut Hill Thursday while the Churchwomen host Agnes Irwin on Nov. 13.

Isabel Andrews made nine saves in goal for EA.

Springside Chestnut Hill 2, Episcopal Academy 1 >> J.T. Hughes and Daniel Heep tallied one goal each and Rohan Shetty made six saves to get the win for the Devils.

Alex Barrist had an unassisted goal and Akira Heath made two saves for the Churchmen.

Girls Soccer

Chelsea Wei dished out two assists six minutes apart in the second half and those helpers helped power Episcopal Academy to a 2-1 triumph over Notre Dame.

Wei fed Abby Schwartz in the 52nd minute, then found Bridget Demspey in the 58th minute to give EA a 2-0 lead. Goalie Maya Naimoli made four saves to get the win.

Bryanna Young scored off a feed from Lola Pena for the Irish. Sophia Hall made 11 saves in goal.

Girls Tennis

Caroline Daly and Ella Abramson scored a straight sets victory at first doubles for Notre Dame’s only win in a 6-1 Inter-Ac League loss to Baldwin.

Daly and Abramson beat Amelia Skavinski and Sophia Ran, 6-3, 6-1.

Boys Water Polo

Luka Sekulic and Ben McDade came up big to lift Haverford School to a 21-17 victory over Germantown Academy.

Sekulic posted six goals, one assist, two steals and one drawn ejection. McDade collected five goals, two assists, six steals and one drawn ejection. Luke Putter added two goals, three assists, one steal and one drawn ejection.
