DLN Roundup: Devon Prep’s Ciocca earns state title

Nick Ciocca of Devon Prep fired a 3-under-par 69 to capture the PIAA Class AA Boys Golf Individual Championship at the Penn State Golf Courses on Tuesday. Ciocca’s two-day total of 6-under 138 was one shot better of Jacob Wolak of Slippery Rock.
The top three finishers were the only golfers to have rounds under par.
In 3A, Nick Gross of Downingtown West shot an 1-under-par 71 to finish third.
Gross completed the two-round event with an even-par 144. Dyan Ramsey won individual honors with a 140 to edge Rocco Salvitti of Central Catholic by one shot.
Gross’ round was one of six that went under par. Sam Feener of West Chester Rustin was tied for 10th at 149. Kennett’s Kasim Narinesingh-Smith tied for 19 at 150 and Kyle Mauro of Conestoga shat a 153, including one of the under-par rounds (71).
The team competition will be held today at Penn State.

Girls Golf
PIAA Championships >> Unionville’s Mary Dunigan had the second-best round of the day with a 3-under-par 69 to place third in the Girls PIAA Championship. Dunigan finished the two-round tournament with an 1-over-par 145. Sydney Yarmish of Lower Merion had the day’s low round with a 5-under 67 to power her way to the title, three shots clear of Kayley Roberts of Phoenixville. Silvana Gonazalez of Downingtown West was tied for 15th with a 160. The girls team competition is today.

Girls Soccer
WC Henderson 6, Oxford 0 >> Morgan Chiazza notched two goals and an assist to guide the Warriors (8-2-1) to the Ches-Mont victory. Becca Miller, Natalie Scott, Sam Marcakis and Maura Fisher had single tallies. Kennedy Stark was called to make just one save. Kaelyn Phouthavongsa made 26 stops for the Hornets (3-8, 4-12).

Avon Grove 3, WC Rustin 0 >> The Red Devils defended their Ches-Mont National Division championship and moved to 11-0 with one division game to play. Sydney Correll scored early in the first half. The game was suspended in the 13th minute and continued Tuesday. Alexis Manfredi netted a pair of goals in the second half.

Girls Tennis
Unionville 3, Conestoga 2 >> The Longhorns won the two doubles matches to edge the Pioneers in the District 1 Class 3A final to repeat as district champions. The sister duo of Alexa Stanislawczyk and Emma defeated Bella Chesn and Melissa Fan, 6-4, 6-3 at first doubles. Jaclyn Santiguida and Milana Amoss downed Michelle Fan and Sowmya Krishna, 6-0, 6-1 at second doubles. Unionville’s Grace Li beat Isabelle Emmanuel, 6-0, 6-1. Stoga won the next two singles, Kate Emmanuel topped Sophia Zhang, 6-4, 6-4 and Jennifer He edged Catherine Stone, 3-6, 7-6 (1), 10-6.

Volleyball
WC East 3, Coatesville 0 >> Elliet Manning led the way with six kills, 18 assists and 10 digs as the Vikings captured the Ches-Mont National match, e 25-7, 25-9, 25-20. Katelyn Kernicky had seven digs and two aces, Allison McMillan added five kills and five assists and Alexa Mork recorded 13 kills, five digs and two aces.

WC Rustin 3, Avon Grove 1 >> Jane Nelson set a school record with 33 kills as the Golden Knights knocked off the Red Devils, 25-12, 25-21, 25-27, 25-20, in the Ches-Mont match. Nelson also had 20 digs. Senior Kylie Root had a career-high 41 assists.
