
STATE COLLEGE >> Phoenixville’s Kayley Roberts shot one under par to take a first-place lead on the opening day of the PIAA Class 3A girls golf state tournament at Penn State University Monday.
Roberts is the lone player who finished Day 1 under par while District 1 champion Sydney Yermish of Lower Merion sits in second place after breaking even at 72.
Roberts’ sister, Kate, sits in a four-way tie for seventh place with Unionville’s Mary Dunigan, South Fayette’s Marissa Malosh and Peters Township’s Ellie Benson after shooting 76.
Owen J. Roberts’ Stefania Fedun shot six over at 78, landing her at 11th place.
Devon Prep’s Nick Ciocca sits at second place in the Boys 2A field at two under par at 70 while Union City’s Josh James leads the pack at 69. District 1 champ Malcom Raupp of New Hope Solebury is in a seven-way tie for seventh place after shooting 80.
Berks Catholic’s David Birmingam (85) and Braeden Stringer (95) are ties for 56th and 71st place, respectively.
In the boys 3A field, Springfield-Montco’s Adam Fluehr broke even at 72 and is in a six-way tie for fifth place with Manheim Township’s Andrew Bilson, Penn Trafford’s Nick Turowski, La Salle College’s Kevin Lafond, Central Bucks South’s Noah Moelter and Stroudsburg’s Hunter Probst. Cedar Crest’s Dylan Ramsey leads the field having finished 5-under 67.
District 1 champion Nicholas Gross of Downingtown West and Strath Haven’s Tyler Debusschere are in a seven-way tie for 11th place after shooting 73. Central Bucks West’s Charles Feraco is in a six-way tie for 21st place along with Council Rock North’s Nick Riscia at 75.
Springfield’s Danny Flaherty and Kennett’s Kasim Narinesingh-Smith are tied with Avonworth’s Kai Carlson for 27th place while West Chester Rustin’s Sam Feeney is in a five-way tie for 31st place after shooting 77.
Daniel Boone’s Chase Yenser and Central Bucks East’s Will Dunsmore are in a six-way stalemate for 49th place after shooting 80.
Central Bucks West’s Ryan Quinn and Council Rock North’s Andrew Zazoff carded 81s while Conestoga’s Kyle Mauro shot an 82 to land in a seven-way tie for 60th place.
