Mercury Roundup (Sept. 28): Eves’ pair propels Boyertown field hockey to Senior Night win over OJR

FIELD HOCKEY

Boyertown 3, Owen J. Roberts 2

Holding its Senior Night away from home at OJR, the Bears pulled out a PAC Liberty win thanks to a strong first half and two-goal night from freshman Elise Eves. Katelyn Dulin (Peyton Shellaway assist) opened the scoring for Boyertown before Dulin set up Eves’ first score. Kylee Scherer (assisted by Evie Wolters) put OJR on the board but Eves’ second on a loose ball scramble prior to halftime proved to be the difference.  Maddie Tillou (assisted by Hayden Streeter) got OJR within one with five minutes to play. Mary Catherine Maloney, Alaina Charlesworth, and Kaelyn Drey came up big defensively for Boyertown. An evenly-played match, Boyertown led in corners 10-8 while OJR led in shots 11-9. Sarah Yoder made nine saves for the Bears, Katja Larsen 7 for OJR.

Upper Merion 6, Pottstown 0

Rylie McGrath and Ashley Evitts scored two goals each and the Vikings handled the Trojans in a PAC Frontier matchup Wednesday. 

Ella Menke and Julianna Callison (assisted by Becca Shuler) also tallied for UM. Pottstown’s Taetum Robbins registered 16 saves.

Upper Perkiomen 6, Phoenixville 0

The Traynor sisters terrorized the Phantoms Wednesday afternoon in a PAC Frontier game that saw the trio score all six Upper Perk goals. Jess Traynor had four goals and an asist, Jade Traynor had a goal and two assists and Julia Traynor had a single score. Ashlyn Gatto, Landrey DiLillo and Abby Rodenberger were also credited with assists for Upper Perk, which improved to 7-0 in division (7-3 PAC, 9-4 overall).

Methacton 8, Perkiomen Valley 1

Carmela Maro scored twice and the Warriors overpowered the Vikings in a PAC Liberty game Wednesday. Also on the scoresheet for Methacton (9-0, 12-1) was Ceci Rehak, Elena Weychert nad Elise DeWan, who had a goal and an assist apiece, and Lily DeWan (goal), Nicole Uebele (goal), Renee Blake (goal) and Lea DeWan (assist). Samantha Gardner supplied PV’s goal.

GIRLS SOCCER

Owen J. Roberts 5, Pottsgrove 0

Alexa Vogelman netted three goals while Olivia Thompson and Sabrina Marks also scored goals as the Wildcats eased by the Falcons in a PAC crossover.

Upper Perkiomen 0, Spring-Ford 0

Upper Perk maintained its unbeaten record but couldn’t solve Spring-Ford and goalie Erika Eickhoff in a scoreless PAC cross-divisional draw.

Eickhoff made 12 saves in the shutout of the high-scoring Indians. UP’s Ava Long stopped all six SF shots on target.

Methacton 2, Upper Merion 0

On Methacton’s senior night, the Warriors tallied twice in the second half to down the Vikings a PAC cross-division match. Junior Kendall Ricca scored on a far post header, assisted by a left footed cross from senior Mackenzie Coupe, in the 61st minute. Forty seconds later, Aubrey Beaugard doubled the lead, assisted by junior Mia Chan. Shots at goal were 15-1, and corners were 7-0, both in favor of Methacton (3-8-2 overall).

Alina Friz, Emily Walter and Madison Baker scored goals for the Bears in a shutout of the Golden Panthers.

BOYS SOCCER

Pope John Paul II 1, Boyertown 1

PJP”s Emilio Stipe, assisted by Mark Heffner, leveled the match with 3:25 left in regulation and the Golden Panthers and Bears played to a PAC crossover draw. Brayden Burkhardt supplied Boyertown with its first-half goal. Jason Krum made eight saves for PJP.

Spring-Ford 4, Upper Perkiomen 0

The Rams upped their win streak to seven games with two goals in each half to take down the Tribe in a PAC crossover. David Alban (two goals) bookended the scoring while Grant Miller and Joey Ricevuto also scored goals. Max Exeter, Matt Mcree and Luca Carboy tallied assists.

Ethan Williams struck twice in the first half and the Wildcats doubled the margin in the second half in a PAC crossover win over the Falcons.

 In the second half, OJR scored on a free kick from Joey Kish and an unassisted goal from Mick Kuhl.  Dan Greenspan and Nicky Gambone assisted on Williams’ first half goals. OJR outshot the Falcons 12-3.

Phoenixville 5, Norristown 2

Goals from Ricky Kaniewski, Efe Ulcay, Nate Stewart, Jack Illig, and Evan DesMarais led the Phantoms to a PAC crossover win over the Eagles.  Assists came from Stewart (2), Illig (2), and Ulcay.

Daniel Boone 4, Twin Valley 2

Cam Henry contributed on all four Blazer goals – three goals and an assist – in Boone’s win Wednesday over Twin Valley. Chad Brown had a goal and two assists for DB while Jared Scott had an assist. DB led in shots (7-4) and corners (4-2). Jake Sasser and Colin Olivia scored for TV.

PJP improved to 11-0 and maintained its season-long streak of not dropping a set to a PAC opponent with a sweep of Perk Valley. Statistical leaders for PJP were: Hutton Cordrey (12 kills, 9 service points, 9 digs), Natalie Ricevuto (15 kills), Grace Cooper (20 digs, 16 service points), Madison Monahan (34 assists, 19 points) and Maeve Gallagher (9 kills).

For PV, Naomi Clauhs had 10 kills and 10 digs, Olivia Wusinich had 10 assists and 8 digs and Alexis Boozer had 10 digs.

Methacton 3, Pottsgrove 0 (25-19, 25-15, 25-12)

In a PAC win Wednesday, Methacton leaders were Mandy Baldwin with 14 kills and 2 aces, Jacque Rizzuto with 8 kills and 1 ace and Rachel Pettine with 31 assists. Methacton is 6-3 in the PAC (10-3 overall) and leads the Liberty division. For Pottsgrove, Chelsea Wasdick had 10 digs, Raelyn Eisenhard had 3 digs and 2 kills, and Rylie Eisenhard had 5 service points, 2 aces, and 2 blocks. 

Upper Merion 3, Spring-Ford 1 ( 25-21, 18-25, 25-17, 25-21)

Leading UM (11-1) in the four-set PAC win, Sophia Schweikert had a triple-double by amassing 30 kills, 14 digs and 10 service points. Yalerie Acevado had a double-double with her 14 kills and18 digs. Julia Giammarco had 16 digs while Raven Albrecht added 11. Amber Chang had 15 service points (5 aces) while Raven added 11. Caitlyn Daywalt had 11 service points and dished out 39 assists.
