Delco Roundup: Academy Park’s Robinson claims Del Val singles title

Academy Park’s Shaniya Robinson won a pair of decisions in straight sets Friday to claim the Del Val League singles title on her home court.

Robinson will represent the league in District 1 Class 3A singles tournament next Friday.

Robinson defeated Chichester’s Maggie Mallory, 6-2, 6-0, in the semifinals and claimed the title with a 6-2, 6-4 triumph over Chi’s Courtney Carberry in the final.

Carberry knocked off Academy Park’s Faith Larkin, 6-0, 6-1 in the semifinals. Larkin defeated Mallory, 6-3, 6-1, for third place.

Episcopal Academy 6, Springside Chestnut Hill 1 >> Avery Morris and Carter Yearly won at second and third singles, respectively, for EA.

Morris was a 6-0, 6-4 winner while Yearley posted a 6-2, 6-1 victory.

Penn Charter 7, Notre Dame 0 >> Lexi Bari, Mariah Mays and Karya Karabucak lost just two games combined in singles for the Quakers.

Sydney Batts and Chloe Marin Shanhan put up a fight at first doubles for the Irish before falling to Leila Feldman and Bridgette Gold, 2-6, 6-2, 10-4.

Field Hockey

Laura Wineberg dished out three assists and scored twice to power Archbishop Carroll to a 10-0 triumph over Lansdale Catholic in Catholic League field hockey action Friday.

Sienna Golden netted three goals, Gwen Schnyder also scored twice and Cate McConaghy posted three assists and one goal to keep the Patriots (4-0) undefeated in league play. Courtland Schumacher and Bridget Grazel contributed one goal each. Arianna Hall only had to make one save to post the shutout.

Girls Soccer

Lily Fusco tallied twice to power Agnes Irwin to a 3-2 Inter-Ac League victory over Germantown Academy.

Fusco scored off assists from Liz King and Kennedy Kelleher. Leah Strasser had an unassisted goal for the Owls.

In nonleague action:

Episcopal Academy 4, Radnor 0 >> Maya Bright’s two goals and Maya Naimoli’s play in goal powered the Churchwomen. Bridget Dempsey added one goal and one assist, while Natalie Magnotta also scored for EA. Naimoli made eight saves to post the shutout.

Mallory Toomey and Madison Lynn shared the goalkeeping duties for the Raptors.

Boys Soccer

Beckett Young scored and Will Hall made eight saves in goal as Strath Haven battled Harriton to a 1-1 draw in double overtime Thursday.

Girls Volleyball

Vikki Zelubowski and Margo Kep were strong at the net with a combined 18 kills and eight blocks in Notre Dame’s 3-0 Inter-Ac League victory over Baldwin.

Carolyn Meehan and Katia Hemphill combined for 26 digs to lead the defense in the 24-22, 25-21, 25-21 victory.

In the Catholic League:

Cardinal O’Hara 3, Neumann-Goretti 0 >> All-state junior Jasmine Sullivan posted 11 assists and seven kills on eight attempts, five digs and three aces in the 25-13, 25-6, 25-8 win.

Freshman Maggie Carcillo posted 12 assists, four kills, four digs and three aces. Kara Hoy pitched in with seven kills.

In nonleague action:

Penncrest 3, Chichester 0 >> Liz Kurcon posted a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs to go with six aces in the 25-11, 25-14, 25-17 victory for the Lions.

Keira Costello added 10 kills and two blocks. Maddy Bachovcin had 18 assists and three aces. Emma Curran (eight kills) and Fiona O’Loughlin (seven aces, six digs) also came up big for the Lions.
