Cross Country: Warkentine win is a victory for Conestoga

Parker Warkentine cruised to victory Tuesday as Conestoga went 3-0 in a Central League meet with wins over Garnet Valley (15-49), Marple Newtown (22-39) and Ridley (21-36) Tuesday at Rose Tree Park.

Warkentine won in 16:44.20. Aldan Mahoney placed fifth and Shane Walsh was ninth for the Pioneers.

Lower Merion also went 3-0 thanks to top 10 finishes by Alexander Goonewardene (fourth) and Andrew Gannon (sixth). The Aces topped Garnet Valley (15-48), Marple Newtown (23-38) and Ridley (21-34).

Luke Rodden took second in 17:13.60 and Curtis Conner placed 10th for Radnor, which defeated Marple Newtown (24-35) and Garnet Valley (18-44) and fell to Ridley (26-31).

Ricky Lee finished fourth and Matt DeAngelo was seventh for Marple Newtown. Joey Lanci of Ridley was ninth.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy sweeps >> Michael Woolery was the overall winner as Episcopal Academy swept the top five places in the weekly meet at Belmont Plateau.

Woolery won in 16:46.80, followed by teammates Aidan McHugh, Connor Hanrahan, Dakin Ebmeyer and Dawson French. Ethan Zhou was ninth for the Churchmen.

Alex Dardarian and Colin Kelly finished 13th and 14th, respectively, to lead Haverford School to third place in the team competition.

Girls Cross Country

Radnor’s Zoe Margolies was the overall winner and Conestoga swept five of the top eight places in the third Central League meet of the season at Rose Tree Park.

Margolis edged Conestoga’s Julia Harris by .6 seconds to take the victory. Margolies won in 20:09.20. Harris was second in 20:09.80.

Natalie Haracz took fourth, Lilly Jones sixth, Elizabeth Gares seventh and Alexia Tubbs eighth to help Conestoga top Garnet Valley (19-44), Marple Newtown (15-50) and Ridley (15-50). Bridget Thornton was 10th for the Pioneers.

Sarah Francis placed fifth as Lower Merion also went 3-0 with wins over Garnet Valley (21-37), Marple Newtown (24-33) and Ridley (15-42). Radnor defeated Ridley (19-39) and fell to Garnet Valley (29-30) and Marple Newtown (27-29).

Garnet Valley freshman Avery Lustgarten placed third and Radnor’s Emma Hyde was ninth to round out the top 10. Allie Favone was 15th for Marple Newtown.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Notre Dame, Episcopal Academy double winners >> Therese Trainer and Kara Sweeney took the top two spots as Notre Dame defeated Episcopal Academy (15-39) and Agnes Irwin (15-45). Mary Rossano and Ava Del Vas placed fourth and fifth, respectively, for the Irish.

Alex Gobran finished third overall for EA, which beat Agnes Irwin (26-29) and Baldwin (16-44). Mason Hippler and Avery Brennan were ninth and 10th, respectively, for Agnes Irwin, which defeated Baldwin (17-38).
