DLN Local Roundup: Unionville downs Mt. St. Joe’s in key girls golf nonleague contest

The Unionville girls golf squad secured a 167-175 win over Mount Saint Joseph on Tuesday in a key non-league clash of two of District 1’s top programs. Senior standout Mary Dunigan grabbed medalist honors with a 2-over-par 37.

She was three-over through three holes, but played the final six in 1-under, including a birdie at the par-5 9th.

“I wish I had played better, but I had a good comeback,” said Dunigan, who was fifth in the state as a freshman and has already committed to playing college golf at William & Mary.

“Mary’s putter has been a little off lately, and her 100-yard in game isn’t as sharp as it normally is,” said Longhorns’ head coach Joe Sudimak. “But she is definitely gearing up to a top-three finish in the state, and maybe winning it.”

Sophomore Sarina Patel and freshman Reagan Wilson chipped in with identical 43s for Unionville, now 4-0 in the Ches-Mont and 6-2 overall.

“I feel really good about our team,” Dunigan said. “We are strong and deep.”
