Boys Basketball: Mike Troy steps down at Conestoga

One of the most successful boys basketball coaches in District 1 has stepped down from his position as head boys basketball coach. Mike Troy, who has led Conestoga High School boys basketball for the last 16 years has decided to step down effective immediately.

Under Troy, the Pioneers have gone to the district playoffs for the last 14 year., including the completed 2022 season where the Pioneers lost to Abington in the first round of the 6A playoffs. before coming to Conestoga Troy was the head coach at Devon Prep where he led the Tide to a District 1 title and the PIAA tournament five times. Troy has over 350 career wins, his 300th caveat Conestoga in December 2018. This season Conestoga compiled a 16-7 mark.

“I just felt it was time to step back a little,” Troy said. “I have beneath Conestoga for 16 years and at Devon prep for eight and I just felt now is the time top step back a little and not coach this season.”

Conestoga has at or near the top of the Central League standings consitently  under Troy and Conestoga athletic director Kevin Pechin thanked the long time Pioneers leader.

“We extend our thanks and appreciation to Coach Troy for his contributions to the success of the Conestoga basketball program over the last 16 years.” He said.
