Delco Roundup: Spencer/Tran earn Del Val doubles crown

Academy Park’s Kahlon Spencer and Long Tran defeated teammates Owen Newson and Jamere White to capture the Del Val League doubles championship Thursday.

Spencer and Tran rallied from a set down to win 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. The duo will represent the league in the District 1 tournament May 13 at the Springfield YMCA.

Penn Wood’s Nicholas Miller and Nathan Houston bested Chichester’s Zairus Silverio and Daniel Carter 6-2, 6-0 to claim third place.

Garnet Valley 3, Great Valley 1 >> Ashrith Settivari battled back to win 5-7, 6-3, 6-0 at second singles as the Jaguars were victorious in the consolation round of the District 1 Class 3A team tournament.

Shiven Patel was a 6-3, 6-4 winner in the No. 3 match. At first doubles, Braden Rogers and Sailesh Bolduch earned a 6-4, 6-4 decision.

Baseball

Penncrest’s Quinten Perilli delivered the go-ahead two-run single in the bottom of the sixth inning and pitched out of a jam in the seventh to secure a 5-4 win over Radnor.

Perilli pitched two scoreless inning with three strikeouts in relief of starter Gavin Brown (five Ks). Both Penncrest hurlers were 2-for-3 at the dish. Michael Costello chipped in with an RBI double.

Dante Hopson was 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs for the Raptors.

Marple Newtown 7, Strath Haven 3 >> Bennett Cox was 3-for-5 with two RBIs, and Justin Bennett and Owen Mathes each had two hits for the Tigers. Justin DiBona had a single and two ribbies. Justin Brennan pitched 3.2 no-hit innings in relief to earn the win.

Springfield 9, Harriton 8 >> The Cougars scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh to win in walk-off fashion. Matt Bean (two RBIs), Cody Grande, Joey Little and Sean Williams (two RBIs) all had two base knocks.

Garnet Valley 3, Lower Merion 2 >> Colin Simmons racked up nine strikeouts over 6.2 innings and was 2-for-2 with an RBI. CJ Wood was 3-for-3 with a triple, and Drew Van Horn had an RBI double.

In the Del Val League:

Chichester 17, Chester 0 >> AJ Ricco paced the Eagles (9-2, 9-0) with three hits, two RBIs and two runs scored. Aaron Jackson added two hits, three RBIs and four runs scored. Winning pitcher DJ Anderson had two RBIs.

Girls Golf

Clarissa Leung carded a 3-over par 38 at White Manor as Episcopal Academy capped an unbeaten regular season with a 208-237 win over Notre Dame.
