Reporter/Times Herald/Montgomery Media Roundup (May 5): Upper Dublin dominates SOL Liberty Doubles Tournament

Boys tennis

SOL Liberty Doubles >> It was an Upper Dublin party at Plymouth Whitemarsh on Thursday. The No. 1 seeds of Daniel Duan and Scott Schlackman coasted through the league tourney without dropping a set. In fact, they lost just nine games in three matches. And their opponents in the finals? Zach Hunter and Tommaso Serafini, also from Upper Dublin. They were the No. 2 seeds and lost just six games in their first two matches. Then came the finals where Duan and Schlackman prevailed 6-2, 6-2. The third-place match was a bit of a surprise as unseeded James Fassbender and Zachary Small came through with a 6-2, 6-1 over Abington’s duo of Julio Martin-Navas and Simeon Paek. The top three teams qualified for the District 1-3A Doubles Tournament, which will be held a tthe Springfield YMCA beginning Friday.

SOL Colonial Doubles >> Both North Penn and Souderton have doubles teams alive in the SOL Colonial Doubles Tournament, which will finish up next week. North Penn’s No. 2 seed of Hans and Thenuk Perara got a bye in the first round and then survived CB South’s Justin Bin and Mitchell Rabinovich 1-6, 6-3, 6-4 to get to the semis. Souderton’s No. 4 seeds of Will Weiss and Jared Archer also got a bye and then defeated CB South’s Vivek Kamani and Alex Dash 6-1, 6-3. Also making the semis were the CB East duos of No. 1 seeds Connor McLarland and Cyrus Patel and Yurgen Kuryanov and Fedir Kryzakov.

Girls lacrosse

Lansdale Catholic 19, Conwell-Egan 6 >> Four Crusaders tallied hat tricks in a PCL win Thursday. Grace Marchese, Emily Simpson, Keira Trainer and Ava Mercier each scored three goals. Marchese added four assists, Trainer had three helpers and Simpson two.

Wilson 16, Plymouth Whitemarsh 8 >> Brianna Austin scored five goals in the Colonials loss Thursday. Fiona Gooneratne added one goal and three assists for PW.

Upper Perk 13, Upper Merion 12 >> Julianna Callison scored four goals and Ashley Evitts added three in the Vikings PAC loss Thursday. Olivia Smith added two goals while Evitts also had an assist.

Baseball

Methacton 5, Upper Perk 1 >> Jake Chapman went 2-for-3 with an RBI to lead the Warriors to a PAC win Thursday. Dan Brandi threw six innings and allowed one run on one hit while striking out two batters to three walks. 

Softball

Quakertown 4, Upper Dublin 0 >> Upper Dublin’s Chloe Foster threw a complete game, but surrendered four unearned runs in a loss to the Panthers Thursday. The Cardinals made three errors while Madden Reilly recorded their only hit at the plate. Foster struck out six batters to one walk and allowed seven hits in seven innings.

Boys volleyball

Souderton 3, Quakertown 1 >> Nate Brown had 27 kills and three aces to lead the Indians to an SOL American win Thursday. Andrew Brown added 10 kills and Tobie Lias had four. Derek Gilmore contributed three kills and three blocks, Ethan Frattarelli six digs and two aces and Alec Kreiser five digs.
