Delco Roundup: McLaughlin, Torrens power Ridley past Interboro

Paige McLaughlin belted a solo home run, and pitcher Jolie Torrens recorded six strikeouts as Ridley claimed a 5-2 softball victory over nonleague foe Interboro Friday.

All-Delco Haley McMenamin ripped an RBI single to put the Green Raiders up 1-0 in the first inning. She book-ended the scoring with another RBI knock in the sixth.

Maddie Gordon was 2-for-3 with an RBI for Ridley.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy 21, Notre Dame 0 >> Freshman Anna Gallagher racked up seven strikeouts on the way to a five-inning no-hitter. Maddie Masiko finished 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs. Nyah Legette was 3-for-5 with three ribbies.


Derek Volz pitched five strong innings with six strikeouts to lead Episcopal Academy over Germantown Academy, 6-1.

Alex Barrist carried the Episcopal offense with a 3-for-4 performance.

Elsewhere in the Inter-Ac League:

Malvern Prep 5, Haverford School 2 >> Jadan Smith was 2-for-2 with a double, two walks, two runs scored and an RBI to help the Friars rally. Ryan Cochran drove in two runs.

Jake LaRocca had two hits and an RBI for Haverford.

Girls Lacrosse

Alena Catka put her versatility on display during Sun Valley’s 16-2 rout of Academy Park.

Catka supplied three goals, three assists, 10 draw controls and six groundballs. Riley Basht scored five times, and Lainey Chestnut pitched in three goals and five assists.

Jada Kinlaw had the Knights’ goals.

In the Inter-Ac League:

Episcopal Academy 18, Notre Dame 4>> Bella Piselli’s five-goal outing paced the Churchwomen. Sydney Richter, Quinn Whitaker and Lex Ventresca all contributed two goals for EA. Goalie Grace Holland made 13 saves.

Boys Lacrosse

Charlie Kraftson posted three goals and an assist for Episcopal Academy in a 13-4 triumph over Germantown Academy.

Dylan Jaszcz (two assists), TJ Lamb and Lucas Slate all scored twice. Tristan Whitaker had a goal and three assists. goalie Nash Womack made 17 saves.

Also in the Inter-Ac League:

Malvern Prep 13, Haverford School 12 >> The Friars outlasted the Fords in overtime to remain undefeated in the league. Aydan DiRocco finished with three goals and two assists for Haverford. Ryan DiRocco and Teddy Malone each had two goals and two assists.

Boys Tennis

Radnor’s Ariston Fonseca made it past the quarterfinal round of the District 1 Singles tournament before falling in the semifinals to top-seeded Mikkel Zinder of Council Rock South 6-2, 6-2.

Fonseca, the No. 8 seed, opened the day with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Upper Dublin’s Scott Schlackman 6-2, 6-4. In the second round, Fonseca defeated Abhiraj Srivastava of Downingtown East 6-3, 6-4. Fonseca will play for a fifth-place medal Saturday.

Chichester’s Mateo Torres lost in the first round to Joseph Yarbrough of Avon Grove 6-2, 6-0.
