Mercury Roundup (April 1): Spring-Ford’s Mozi scores OT winner to beat Boyertown

GIRLS LACROSSE

Spring-Ford 12, Boyertown 11

Highlights: Helped by the goaltending of Ilyana Jones, the Rams overcame a first-half deficit to force a tie with the Bears in regulation time before Alyssa Mozi scored the OT winner for the PAC Liberty win.

It was the second straight game winner for Mozi, who also scored in the final seconds to beat Perkiomen Valley earlier this week

Spring-Ford got a game-high six goals from Mozi, while Alina Friz led Boyertown with her five-goal showing.

Marple Newtown 14, Pottsgrove 12

Highlights: The Falcons came up short of Marple Newtown Friday, that despite getting a seven-goal showing from Sydney Wasdick.

Wasdick shared game scoring honors with MN’s Lizzie Getz, who also hit the nets seven times.

Goals: Pottsgrove – Sydney Wasdick 7, Alaura O’Neill 2, Katie Bean 1, Taylor Fiorini 1, Christine Hires 1. Marple Newtown – Lizzie Getz 7, Jules Rodriguez 3, Shani Conine 2, Ella Dalessandro 1, Olivia DiValerio 1.

Assists: Pottsgrove – Alaura O’Neill 3, Katie Bean 1.

Saves: Pottsgrove – Lily Guerrette 4. Marple Newtown – Allison Meres 8.

BOYS LACROSSE

Daniel Boone 10, Central Dauphin East 1

Highlights: Aidan Laws scored four goals and had one assist to lead the Blazers past the Panthers Friday. Colin Wagner had three goals and two assists, and Troy Krickzy had nine saves for Daniel Boone (1-2).

Wissahickon 8, Perkiomen Valley 3

Highlights: The Vikings’ offensive firepower fell silent in a loss that saw the Trojans capitalize six times on costly PV offensive turnovers on their way to victory. Dane Hagen (two) and Matt Horgan accounted for all the Vikes’ scoring.

Perk Valley 0 2 0 1 – 3

Wissahickon 3 0 4 1 – 8

Goals: Perkiomen Valley – Dane Hagen 2, Matt Horgan 1.

SOFTBALL

Kennett 3. Methacton 2

Highlights: Methacton’s bottom of the seventh rally fell one run short in Friday’s non-league loss to Kennett.

Lineen allowed one earned run on six in seven innings hits in seven innings, striking out eight and walking just one. But the arm and bat of Kennett’s Genevieve Ewere too much as she struck out 19  and homered to drive in two runs.

Riley Kairer had two of Methacton’s three hits.

Spring-Ford 4, Emmaus 1

Highlights:  A four-run fourth inning proved the difference for the Rams in Friday’s non-league win.  Morgan Lester, Gracie Carlin (double) and Ellie Jarrell (2 RBI) all had two-hit days, while Jules Scogna gave up just three hits and struck out 11 in the circle. Scogna didn’t allow a run over the final six innings.

BASEBALL

Pottsgrove 9, Kutztown 6

Highlights: Yasir Gardner-Sizer and John Ryan McMenamin swung the hottest bats for the Falcons as they used a late-inning rally to pull away from the Cougars to claim victory Friday.

Gardner-Sizer drove in four of Pottstown’s runs off 3-for-4 hitting that featured a home run and triple. McMenamin also homered as part of his 2-for-3, three-RBI plate effort.

Antietam 10, Pottstown 7

Highlights: The Trojans rallied for six runs in the final two innings, but a nine-run fifth by host Antietam was too much to overcome in Friday’s non-league loss. Reece Murphy and Jadon Wiszumerski both scored a pair of runs for Pottstown. David Mackewicz gave the Trojans a chance with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief.
