Mercury Roundup (Jan. 27): Kennedy nets PJP-record 37 points in rout of Upper Merion

Pope John Paul II 63, Upper Merion 37 (box score): Amelia Kennedy scored a PJP-record 37 points as the Golden Panthers handled the Vikings in a PAC contest Thursday. Nadia Platt chipped in a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds for Frontier first-place PJP. Devon Maiden was hot early for UM and finished with 22 points.

Methacton 54, Boyertown 38 (box score): Point guard Cassidy Kropp had it going offensively with a game high 22 points as Methacton stayed unbeaten in the PAC (8-0 Liberty, 11-0 PAC). Nicole Timko added 12 points and seven rebounds while Mairi Smith scored nine with eight boards. Madison Konnick topped the Bears’ scoresheet with 15 points.

Pottstown 42, Pottsgrove 39 (box score): On Senior Night, PAC leading scorer and senior guard Trinell Watson was good for 29 points and the Trojans took the PAC Frontier matchup against their crosstown rivals. Injured Pottstown guard Calista Daye started the game in ceremonial fashion and scored the opening basket. Aaliyah Freeman led Pottsgrove with 19.

Upper Perkiomen 51, Phoenixville 41 (box score): Freshman Grace Galbavy scored 24 points and the Indians used a big second quarter to upend the Phantoms in PAC play. Elena Fabian scored six of her eight points in the second frame.

Perkiomen Valley 54, Owen J. Roberts 38 (box score): Highlights: Freshman Quinn Boettinger dominated down low with 22 points and the Vikings eased by the Vikings for a PAC Liberty win. Jennifer Beattie added 12 for PV (8-2, 13-3).

Boys Basketball

Methacton 60, Boyertown 29 (box score): Methacton didn’t allow Boyertown a double-digit quarter and got 13 points from Cole Hargrove to stay unbeaten atop the PAC. Matt Christian added 11 for the Warriors, which hit eight 3s.

Upper Merion 56, Pope John Paul II 50, OT (box score): Madison Tatom saved his best for last as he netted six of his team-high 16 in overtime to elevate Upper Merion over PJP in a PAC Frontier clash.

Spring-Ford 53, Norristown 36 (box score): Jake Kressley and Cole Turner shared game scoring honors while leading the Rams past the Eagles in PAC Liberty Division action.
Kressley and Turner each scored 15 points in helping Spring-Ford open a 30-15 halftime lead.
