Reporter/Times Herald Boys Basketball Roundup (Dec. 14): Dock Mennonite’s Mike Fergus earns 600th career victory

Dock Mennonite 69, Church Farm School 56 >>Dock Mennonite coach Mike Fergus earned his 600th career victory as Nathan Lapp led the Pioneers to a win in their Bicentennial Athletic League opener Tuesday night.

Lapp scored 20 of his 28 points in the first half while MaRob Willis finished with 11 points for Dock (2-1, 1-0 BAL Independence), who won their second straight. Hoyt Bultje added eight points, all coming after halftime.

Fergus is in his 45th year as a coach, his 40th as head coach, and has won at least 100 games at four different high schools – Robert E. Lee in Houston, Texas, State College (coaching the boys and girls teams), North Penn and Dock.

Fergus won 171 games in 12 seasons at North Penn and in his eighth season at Dock is 111-74 with the Pioneers.

Methacton 53, Lansdale Catholic 40 >> Brett Byrne was one of three Methacton players in double figures, scoring a game-high 18 points as the Warriors used a strong start to beat visiting Lansdale Catholic and stay undefeated.

Cole Hargrove had 16 points while Matt Christian finished with 10 points for Methacton (3-0), which led 15-5 after a quarter. Up 42-34 going into the fourth, the Warriors outscored LC 11-6 in the final period.

Brandon Thomson led the Crusaders (0-3) with 13 points while Jake Coonahan added 10 points.

Brett Byrne led the way with 18 pts while Cole Hargrove chipped in 16 and Matt Christian added 10.

North Penn 62, Central Bucks West 56 >> Norman Gee finished with 22 points, 12 in the second half, while Joe Larkins scored 11 points as North Penn stared SOL Colonial play with a road win.

John Lee led Central Bucks West with a game-high 27 points, scoring 10 in the first quarter as the Bucks (0-3, 0-1 division) took a 15-11 lead. But Gee and Larkins combined for 15 of the Knights’ 21 second-quarter points as North Penn (2-1, 1-0) rallied to go into halftime up 32-27. The Knights extended their lead to 46-36 entering the fourth.

Central Bucks East 49, Pennridge 45 >> Liam Cummiskey scored 15 points, including the go-ahead free throw after a Brett Young steal with 30 seconds left as host Central Bucks East edge Pennridge in both sides’ SOL Colonial Division opener.

Matt Campione led all scorers with 17 points for Pennridge while Tommy Cramer chipped in 12 points for the Rams (1-2, 0-1).

Aidan Weaver collected five points – making two foul shots with four seconds remaining to put East up four – seven rebounds and three blocks for the Patriots (3-0, 1-0).

Wissahickon 61, Hatboro-Horsham 43 >> Wissahickon had four players score in double figures, led by Earl Stout, who collected 11 of his game-high 20 points in the fourth quarter as the host Trojans won their SOL Liberty Division opener.

Dom Vacchiano scored nine of his 13 points after halftime while Josh Twersky had 12 points – nine in the third – as Wissahickon (2-1, 1-0) won its second straight. Jaylon Williams chipped in 10 points for the Trojans, who led 29-19 at the break then pushed the margin to 45-29 at the end of the third.

Noah Schlosser scored 10 points for Hatboro-Horsham (0-3, 0-1).

Central Bucks South 62, Souderton 59 >> Jay Bonnet led Souderton with 24 points as the Indians lost to host Central Bucks South in the SOL Colonial Division opener for both teams.

Levi John, Carson Grant and Paul Vince each had eight points for Souderton (2-1, 0-1).

Jenkintown 47, Calvary Christian 37 >> Jake Hilton made three of Jenkintown’s 11 3-pointers and scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Drakes to their first victory.

Tommy Walsh registered a double-double for Jenkintown (1-2, 1-0 BAL Presidents) with 12 points and 11 rebounds. The Drakes led 22-20 at halftime before outscoring Calvary Christian 17-7 in the third to go up 39-27.

Brandon Bergin’s 16 points paced the Cougars (0-2, 0-1 BAL Presidents).

Friends’ Central 67, Germantown Academy 45 >> Collin Bowman connected on a trio of 3-pointers as Friends’ Central jumped out to a 19-5 after a quarter as the Phoenix went to best Germantown Academy in the nonleague matchup.

Bowman finished with a game-high 17 points for FCS (3-2), who won its third straight. Kahmai Clark and Joseph Green both scored 13 points while Fazi Oshodi had 10 points for the Phoenix.

Luke Marvin scored 10 points to lead GA (2-3), which has lost its last three. The Patriots’ Flinn Brooks and Blake Smith each had nine points.
